On a recent note, after the release of Marvel’s latest superhero series, Secret Invasion, the show sparked rage across the internet.
Following the release of Secret Invasion on Disney+, the show became a hot topic on social media after their use of AI in the opening credits and the shocking death of Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders). Thus, fans started slamming the show as they created hype over Smulders’ character only to kill her in the opening episode. Further, the rage turned into war when Marvel used the actress’ image for promotion of the show.
Maria Hill’s Death In Secret Invasion Enrages Fans
Marvel’s latest show Secret Invasion created major hype prior to its release on 21 June 2023. However, as the series took off on Disney+, Marvel Studios faced an unexpected crisis as fans started slamming them over the death of the beloved character Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders). The unexpected twist in the premiere episode left fans feeling discontent.
Despite the pilot episode having the title “Resurrection”, when the narrative took a tragic turn to show the demise of Maria Hill, fans felt misguided and cheated by Marvel Studios. Recalling the hype created over Secret Invasion which included Maria Hill, fans felt even more deprived. Thus, infuriated by such deception, the death triggered an unexpected backlash on Twitter among some Marvel fans.
Witnessing such a tragedy after trusting Marvel’s decision-making process, fans failed to overcome their emotional investment and thus slammed MCU with criticism. Bringing a familiar MCU character who appeared in the Avengers franchise, to its end, Marvel tried touching the emotional aspect with utmost care. However, failing to achieve their expectations, the studio faced an unprepared issue.
Marvel Faces Criticism Over Secret Invasion Post
While fans have been trying to cope with the shocking death of a longstanding MCU character in the first episode of Secret Invasion, Marvel Studios placed another wrong step during their promotion. After unnecessarily playing with fans’ emotions by killing off Cobie Smulders’ character, fans were shocked by Marvel’s audacity as they used the actress’ image on promotional posts.
Recalling Cobie Smulders‘ character, Maria Hill’s first appearance in The Avengers in 2012, fans were trying to cope with her demise in Secret Invasion, when Marvel unknowingly triggered their sentiments further. Despite creating hype, after Marvel killed Maria Hill, fans were stunned by the Studios’ impudence when they continued using her face on promotional posts.
After playing with fans’ sentiments twice, Marvel stood no chance but to face sheer profanity. Criticizing the studio, fans waged war against them on Twitter. However, despite the heartbreaking fate of Maria Hill, audiences are still hooked on the show and are willing to venture into the thrilling story featuring Samuel L. Jackson, Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and more.
