Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn will be launching on Xbox Series X/S in the second quarter of 2024. When the title finally launches for the Microsoft console, two new jobs will be added to the game. If you are unfamiliar with Final Fantasy 14, or any of the previous Final Fantasy games, jobs are essentially base class specializations. They can be particularly useful in group combat situations and there are currently 20 different jobs available. The announcement for these jobs is part of of an upcoming expansion that was revealed at the Final Fantasy 14 FanFest.
Although there is very little information on the next Final Fantasy 14 expansion, we do know it will be titled Dawntrail and release before the end of next year. Naoki Yoshida, the Producer and Director of the title, has said the two jobs will continue to fill out DPS (damage per second) role options, which will include a magic ranged DPS job and a melee DPS job. Although some gamers worried the game’s developer and publisher, Square Enix, would not continue the trend of adding two jobs per expansion, it appears this will not be the case.
Although the jobs were not specifically named in the Final Fantasy 14 reveal, Yoshida did give fans a hint of what is to come. A tradition of Yoshida’s is that at every FanFest he wears a shirt that references the upcoming jobs. This year, he wore a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem graphic t-shirt. Fans have already begun to speculate as to what this means for the game, but with iconic combat styles involved with Leonardo’s twin katana, Michelangelo’s nunchaku, Donatello’s bō staff and Raphael’s twin sai, players are sure to have some fun.
Where Final Fantasy 14 Has Been and Where It Is Going
There have been five major expansions in Final Fantasy 14 since its release in 2013. In 2015 there was Heavensward, in 2017 Stormblood, 2019 had Shadowbringers, 2021 was Endwalker, and now Dawntrail in 2024. Heavensward was the first expansion to increase the level cap, moving it to 60, and now the maximum will reach 100 with Dawntrail. The jobs that have been added since the expansions started include: Dark Knight, Astrologian, Machinist, Red Sage, Samurai, Blue Mage, Gunbreaker, Dancer, Sage and Reaper.

Final Fantasy 14 has been on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows, OS X, PlayStation 5, and now Xbox Series X/S. The massively multiplayer online role-playing game has spanned three generations of consoles and shows no signs of slowing down.
Although there is not much information about Dawntrail or the future of Final Fantasy 14, we do know the next expansion will include a whole new story. It will take place on Tural, a western continent also referred to as the New World. Along with the expansion’s planned summer release, there will be an upgrade in graphics to keep up the games’ quality.
Xbox Series X/S players will be excited to know this expansion will be available on their consoles upon release. Surprisingly, as of the writing of this article, Final Fantasy 14 has passed up on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. And since it appears Yoshida and his team are looking ahead when it comes to this incredibly popular title, the aforementioned consoles may never get the release they deserve.
