Antonio Banderas, who made an impact with The Mask of Zorro in 1998, is among the most talented actors in the industry. The Spanish actor has proved his mettle in acting with his numerous popular movies over the decade. Some of his prominent works include Interview with the Vampire (1994), Desperado (1995), Assassins (1995), Evita (1996), and others. The actor also gave his voice to the box office success, Puss in Boots and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022).
As per recent rumors, the actor is in talks to play the role of Galactus in Marvel Studios’ upcoming film, Fantastic Four.
Antonio Banderas offered a role in Fantastic Four
As per recent reports, The Expendables 3 star has been offered the role of cosmic entity Galactus in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe Fantastic Four movie. It is considered an unexpected move by the production, and apparently, now it is up to the actor if he wishes to portray one of the most iconic villains in comic book history.
The rumors are making round since the announcement in early April that the new Fantastic Four would introduce Galactus and the Silver Surfer in a cosmic-heavy storyline with elements of the 1960s.
Who is Galactus in Fantastic Four?
The supervillain Galactus was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1966. Galactus’s first appearance was in the movie, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, released in 2007. He was shown as an inhuman cosmic force who did not speak and had sent the Silver Surfer as its herald to prepare Earth beings for his arrival. He plans to finish the life force of the planet Earth, as he had countless worlds before.
However, in the movie, it was depicted very differently from the character portrayal in Marvel Comics. As per the comics, he was originally a humanoid space explorer named Galan, belonging to the pre-Big Bang planet of Taa. He was exposed to cosmic energy after the Big explosion and was transformed into a massive world-eating creature dressed in magenta armor.
Antonio Banderas to play the role of Galactus
As per the story, Galactus is an essential part of the Marvel continuity, who would eventually become coded as a necessary force for balancing the cosmos. As per the rumors, Galactus will be an antagonist in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie. Hence, it will be interesting to see Antonio Banderas as a giant space-man in a purple helmet. There are also speculations that the actor will not portray Galactus in his traditional form, which may lose the essence of the character.
The upcoming film Fantastic Four would be directed by WandaVision director, Matt Shakman and will come out as part of the MCU’s Phase Six. Shakman’s film will be the fourth live-action movie about Marvel’s first family, as director Tim Story’s movie Fantastic Four came out in 2005, which was followed by Rise of the Silver Surfer and Josh Trank’s reboot in 2015.
Fantastic Four is scheduled for theaters on February 14, 2025.
