Oh My God! Marvel has literally left us all overwhelmed. 2020 was a year of very little MCU revelations. But Marvel Studios has really made up for the lack of content on Disney’s Investor Day. We’ve got so many revelations that I don’t really know where to begin from. Okay, let’s take it in the same order in which Kevin Feige made all the announcements. Here’s every thing that he revealed regarding the future slate of the MCU:
WandaVision
We got the epic new trailer for the WandaVision series, which hits Disney+ on January 15, 2021. Trailer 2 isn’t as long, but it carries a lot more information than the previous trailer. Randall Park shows up as Jimmy Woo in the trailer. Kat Dennings is seen as Darcy Lewis. Kathryn Hahn’s nosey neighbor is up to all sorts of mischief. Teyonah Parris steps into Wanda and Vision’s reality as Monica Rambeau. The Mind Stone returns. And, it seems as if Vision and Wanda will be teaming up to take on the forces of SWORD.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Kevin Feige revealed that Elizabeth Olsen is currently filming Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange 2. She’d appear alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Feige also confirmed that Rachel McAdams is set to return in the film as Christine Palmer. As you’d probably know by now, Xochitl Gomez will play America Chavez. Feige called Doctor Strange 2 a “thrilling, scary, mind-bending adventure.” And lastly, he confirmed that the film will connect to both WandaVision and Spider-Man 3. It arrives on March 25, 2022.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Feige totally surprised us with this action-packed trailer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He confirmed that the series will premiere on March 19, 2021. The trailer teased a shocking team up between Sam, Bucky and Baron Zemo. Sam Wilson’s Falcon suit has been showcased in action. Erin Kellyman’s villainous character is taking on Falcon. This trailer might certainly be the best reveal of the entire presentation.
Black Widow
Over the last few days, people had their doubts upon Black Widow‘s release. Everyone was thinking that it might be rescheduled for a streaming release. But, Feige confirmed that Black Widow will get a theatrical release on May 7, 2021.
Loki
The Loki trailer came as yet another surprise package from the event. It unleashed all sorts of craziness by revealing its alternate timeline. The TVA (Time Variance Authority) had a major presence in the trailer. Owen Wilson came in as an Agent of the TVA. Sophia Di Martino’s mystical character was teased. Apparently, the series will involve a massive action sequence taking place in what looks like a “Dystopian future,” or maybe a timeline where everything goes to sh*t! Fortunately for us, Loki will arrive in May 2021, only on Disney+.
What if…?
Jeffrey Wright voices the Watcher in Marvel’s first Disney+ animated series, What if…?. The trailer of the series shows us a bunch of alternate realities. One of them involves Peggy Carter turning into Captain Britain. Another reality shows Doctor Strange taking on an evil Doctor Strange. Instead of Peter Quill, T’Challa gets picked up by Yondu and the Ravagers. A lot seems to be happening in this series, which is set to arrive on Disney+ next summer.
Ms. Marvel
The sizzle reel of Ms. Marvel came as another major surprise. It showed us how Iman Vellani was cast as Kamala Khan. The sizzle also revealed the directors that will be helming certain episodes of the series. Feige confirmed that Ms. Marvel will arrive on Disney+ later in 2021.
Captain Marvel 2
Director Nia DaCosta is currently developing Captain Marvel 2, which has apparently got a change in its release date. The sequel will now arrive on November 11, 2022 instead of its original July 8, 2022 release. And, Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel will be featured in the movie alongside Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau.
Hawkeye
Kevin Feige confirmed the cast of the Hawkeye series. Hailee Steinfeld is playing Kate Bishop. Florence Pugh will reprise her Black Widow role of Yelena Belova. Newcomer Actress Alaqua Cox has been cast as Maya Lopez. Vera Farmiga is playing Eleanor Bishop, Kate’s mother. Tony Dalton has been cast as Jacques Duquesne and actor Fra Fee is going to play the villain Kazi. The episodes are being directed by Rhys Thomas, and the directing duo of Bert & Bertie. Hawkeye is set to arrive on Disney+ later in 2021.
She-Hulk
Marvel’s president stated that She-Hulk is “a series about a woman navigating the world and trying to be taken seriously as a working professional.” Despite her denial, Tatiana Maslany is confirmed to play She-Hulk. Mark Ruffalo will return as Smart Hulk. But most importantly, Tim Roth is reprising his Abomination role from The Incredible Hulk. Guys, I think we should definitely expect the Red Hulk to appear as well.
Towards the end, Feige said that Jennifer Walters is a lawyer that represents the legal issues of superheroes and enhanced individuals. So, we could expect to see other heroes popping up in the episodes of the show. Well, I’m going to consider this as a tease for Daredevil!
Moon Knight
While we know that Oscar Isaac is going to play Moon Knight, Feige didn’t confirm that. What he did say was that the series will be directed by Mohammed Diab. It will focus on a complex vigilante, who suffers with Dissociative identity disorder. Moon Knight will explore some “Exceptional Egyptian Iconography.”
Secret Invasion
Among the new Disney+ shows, Secret Invasion was the first one to be announced. Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury will return. Ben Mendelsohn will also be back as Talos. Feige said, “it’s about a section of Skrulls who have infiltrated every level of life on Earth.”
Ironheart
Dominique Thorne will play the title role of “Genius Inventor” Riri Williams in her own solo series, Ironheart. She’ll have the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man. Like all other Disney+ shows, Ironheart will also connect with the MCU films.
Armor Wars
Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes is finally getting the spotlight in the MCU. He will star in his own Disney+ series called Armor Wars. It will be “a classic Marvel story about Tony Stark’s worst fears coming true. We’re going to see what happens when Tony’s tech falls into the wrong hands.” This time around, War Machine will have to deal with the ramifications of that.
Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special & Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
James Gunn himself is set to write and direct the live action The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. He will be filming this special in the midst of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s production. While Vol. 3 is set to arrive in 2023 (probably May), the Guardians Holiday Special will premiere on Disney+ during the holiday period prior to that. And, Gunn has just confirmed that it will be MCU canon.
I Am Groot
Baby Groot will star in a “series of shorts” on Disney+. We will also see certain other unusual characters show up in these Baby Groot shorts.
Thor: Love and Thunder
Thor 4 will be filming in January, and Feige has confirmed that the movie will feature Christian Bale as the villain, Gorr the Godbutcher! And apparently, Thor 4 has been delayed yet again. It will now end Marvel’s Phase 4 on May 6, 2022.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
The third Ant-Man movie has been titled Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer are confirmed to return. But apparently, there has been a change in the cast as instead of Emma Fuhrmann (Avengers: Endgame), Katherine Newton will continue as Cassie Lang. If the title didn’t give away Kang’s arrival, then Jonathan Majors’ casting as Kang the Conqueror certainly confirms his villainous role in Ant-Man 3. Since 2022’s release slots are full, we’re sure that Ant-Man and the Wasp 3 will arrive in 2023.
Black Panther II
Black Panther II faced a major setback with the tragic demise of Chadwick Boseman. So, the movie has been pushed to July 8, 2022. Kevin Feige confirmed that Marvel Studios will not be recasting Boseman’s T’Challa. His legacy will live forever. So, this probably means that Shuri will be taking on the mantle of Black Panther much earlier than she was supposed to.
Fantastic Four
Feige ended his presentation with the massive reveal of a Fantastic Four movie. We’ve come across evidence in the past that Disney registered a production company called, “Solve Everything Productions,” which has been actively developing the Fantastic Four movie. And now, Feige has more or less confirmed that. The big bomb that he dropped was that the film will be directed by MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy director, Jon Watts.
Now, this hints at two major details. The first is that the Avengers tower has probably turned into the Baxter Building (not the Oscorp tower). Secondly, the Fantastic Four could actually cameo in Spider-Man 3. Can you imagine? Spider-Man 3 is already supposed to have tons of multiverse cameos. And now, the Fantastic Four could also show up in the film.
