Emmys 2023 Best Actor Nominee Brian Cox, 77, Blasts Millennials Driving Woke Culture

The rise of the ‘woke’ generation is one of the key elements of contemporary youth culture. This group is distinguished by its progressive ideals and desire to build a more just society. However, Brian Cox, who was recently nominated for an Emmy for his role as Logan Roy in the popular HBO series Succession, is now going viral after making snide remarks about ‘woke culture’.

The Succession star recently blasted millennials for driving ‘woke culture’ in an interview with Piers Morgan. During his appearance on the Piers Morgan Uncensored talk show, he even expressed his disgust for what he believed to be a social media-driven trend.

Furthermore, the 77-year-old actor claimed that “millennials” and “social media,” which, in his opinion, “hinders, not helps,” are the cause of the problem.

Well, this is not entirely surprising given his outspoken defense of J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, who had come under fire for her alleged anti-trans remarks.

Brian Cox bid farewell to his character Logan Roy, as the critically acclaimed series, Succession has now come to an end. He recently garnered media attention for his opinions on a woke society ever since stepping down as the patriarch of the Roy family.

The actor recently discussed his issues with the idea of “wokeness” in modern society in an interview with Piers Morgan, saying:

“The whole woke culture is truly awful. I don’t know where it comes from. Who are the arbiters of this shaming?”.

When exploring the subject further, Cox claimed that the millennial generation was to blame for promoting the open-minded social movement, saying:

“It turns out it is usually a bunch of millennials. I suppose in a way they’re probably saying, ‘Well you’ve screwed it up so we may as well do something about it’. But it’s from the wrong principle”.

In addition to the generation gap, the Troy actor was quick to note that social media is a significant contributor to “woke culture” in his opinion, adding:

“Social media does not help. It hinders rather than helps, and I think it points out too readily inadequacies”.

Succession Star Is Known For Being Outspoken

This is not the first time Brian Cox has been too blunt and outspoken in his opinions. He earlier defended X2 director, Bryan Singer after a number of s*xual assault allegations were brought against him.

In his previous interview with Yahoo!, the Emmy-winning star, who played the evil William Stryker in X-Men 2 (or X2: X-Men United) admitted that Singer was “under a lot of strain” during filming.

The veteran actor recalled:

“One of his [Bryan Singer] great things was that when he came to a new set, he would have to rethink it. He’d have a thought, and then have to rethink [the scene]. So that was always a difficult transition for him. But once he cracked it, he cracked it very quickly and was able to get on with it.”

Cox has also not been known to have a good reputation with all of his co-stars. Speaking of his fellow actor on Succession, he criticized Jeremy Strong for using method acting because he believed it increased the annoyance in his performance.

“It’s f*cking annoying. Don’t get me going on it.”
