The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) star, Andrew Garfield, appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz on August 20 last year and they had an incredibly detailed conversation about his return as Spider-Man in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021.
Garfield expressed that suiting up as the web-slinging hero once again helped him connect with his spider-brothers in parallel universes, such as Holland and the star who brought Spider-Man to life, Tobey Maguire.
His co-star from The Amazing Spider-Man, Emma Stone, got in touch with him after rumors of him being in the film began doing the rounds on the internet and, as he told, she ended up calling him a ‘jerk.’
As per a report from PEOPLE magazine, Stone and Garfield dated for four years starting from 2011 until their split in 2015, citing the reasons to be work constraints. So, did she call him a jerk because she wasn’t invited to No Way Home? Garfield spilled the beans on what really happened.

Emma Stone Called Andrew Garfield A Jerk For Spider-Man Return
Stone’s Gwen Stacy died in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in the aftermath of Peter Parker’s ultimate battle with Green Goblin, played by Dane DeHaan. Garfield’s own outing as Spider-Man in a threequel was snubbed shortly after.
As Marvel Studios ventured into the multiverse with Spider-Man: No Way Home, director Sam Raimi had to invite the actors who played the iconic character in the past.
Upon being asked if Emma Stone was in the loop in some capacity, Garfield said to Josh Horowitz on the Podcast –
“Emma… kept on texting me, ‘Are you in this new Spider-Man film?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ She was like, ‘Shut up, just tell me.’ I kept it going even with her, it’s hilarious. And then she watched it, and she was like, ‘You’re a jerk.’”
Even though their relationship soured, Andrew Garfield’s confession could be an indication that they maintain a healthy friendship.
Possibilities Of Emma Stone Returning For Spider-Man
On August 8, a professional hairstylist named Mara Roszak, who’s given hair makeovers to stars like Zoe Saldana (Avatar) and Natalie Portman (Thor), posted an image of Stone with short hair on her Instagram handle.
We’ve seen alternate universes collide in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018 and more of it in this year’s Across the Spider-Verse, both of which had Gwen Stacy as Spider-Gwen and had a similar haircut.

While there is no confirmation of her involvement with a Spider-Man project, Sony Pictures, on the other hand, is working on the post-production of their own Spider-Man universe film, Madame Web, which releases next year. We’d have to wait and see if she is connected there somehow.
Spider-Man franchise can be streamed on Disney+.
