Fans of Emilia Clarke and DCEU’s upcoming endeavor Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom have caught on to a recent development, which has furthermore given the audience a reason to support their favorite recasting scenario: Clarke to potentially replace Amber Heard’s role as Mera. Recently, there has been a stupendous escalation in the vocalized denunciation of Heard’s involvement in Aquaman 2, following the aftermath of the Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard defamation trial verdict.
A famous petition on Change.org has also crossed over 4.6 million signatures with people supporting the decision to remove the controversial actress from the DCEU film.
Along with that, another petition that gained traction was people advocating for Emilia Clarke to take up the role of Mera instead. With such growing support for the Game of Thrones alum, people have now taken notice of how when you search for the cast of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on Google, allegedly Clarke pops up next to lead actor Jason Momoa.
Changes In The Cast Of Aquaman 2 On Google
Very recently, on Twitter, fans of DCEU pointed out how there has been an addition of Emilia Clarke in the casting list of Aquaman 2 in the Google search results for the film. There is, however, no role mentioned under the actress’ name. Previously, recasting scenarios did not have any ground, as many believed that the approach taken by WB Studios would be to reduce Heard’s screen-time as Mera in the film. However, now with this latest finding, people are certain that a recasting announcement is soon to make headlines.
Whether that is true or not, is yet to be ascertained. Besides, this can also be a case of casual Internet blips. While intriguing indeed, no confirmations have been made on behalf of the studio which would imply that Heard is officially getting replaced. At least for now.
Why Fans Want Emma Clarke To Replace Amber Heard
There is a reason why fans have been wanting to see Clarke as Mera in Aquaman 2. Previously, Walter Hamada, President of DC Films, in his video deposition during the much-contested defamation trial, attested to how the Aquaman sequel suffered due to a lack of chemistry between Amber Heard and co-actor Jason Momoa. Fans were quick to point out how a potential recasting scenario should have Emilia Clarke in the forefront, as the actress has previously shared the screen with Momoa in Game of Thrones and the two real-life friends share an undeniable chemistry.
Another major reason why the fans want to see the Me Before You alum in the film is owing to her unimaginable scale of talent. She is known to have depicted a diverse range of characters. Some people, on Twitter, have started listing the reasons why Clarke would be a perfect fit for the sequel, which is currently undergoing a 9-month delay and may see several changes being incorporated for the final reel.
Following are some of the fans’ reactions:
Many believe that it is way too late in the production to move forward with a recasting choice. While there has been a delay again in the film’s release, it is not known whether such is the case to make space for a potential replacement. What people have hoped for and what may be the most likely outcome is a heavily edited-out version of the film, with Heard having little to no contribution to make.
Nothing is set in stone and the future may surprise us with official recasting news. Who knows? As for now, what is evident, is the fans’ increasing reproach towards Amber Heard, who have no plans of supporting the endeavor if it plans to give preference to the actress.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is slated for a 25 December 2023 release.
