Embracer Groups Heartless Shutdown of Volition hasn’t Affected Saints Row’s Future

Back on the 31st of August, it was announced that Embracer Studios were planning to shut down a select group of studios, one of which being Volition, the developers behind Saints Row and Red Faction but with this news, many fans are wondering what this could mean for those franchises in the future as back in 2022 we received a new Saints Row, and fans have been hoping for a new Red Faction.

What Will Happen to the Saints Row and Red Faction Franchises now Volition is no More?

The most recent, Saints Row, was released in 2022 and was Volitions effort for a revival of the franchise.

Many fans have been concerned for these two franchises once the announcement was made regarding the shutdown of Volition effective immediately as those who are currently enjoying the new Saints Row game are worried that the game will be shut down by the studio, which has also concerned fans who were looking forward to giving the game a try as it joins PS Plus through September.

Luckily for those fans, there is good news: there are no plans to shut down the current Saints Row game, as both the Saints Row and Red Faction franchises are now going to be developed by PLAION, who are the developers behind arguably one of the best open-world Zombie games over the recent years which is Dead Island 2 and all this means is that these franchises will live on, but will be developed by a different team.

This could also be a good thing for many fans of the franchises as this could encourage a revival of the Red Faction franchise, which is something that many fans have been eagerly awaiting. It will also bring in a fresh set of eyes on the Saints Row franchise, which will hopefully help in its revival as it will bring future content to the recent Saints Row game in the form of more downloadable content, but this is unlikely to happen for a long time whilst the studio gets settled with these new franchises.

Will This Make Drastic Changes to the Saints Row and Red Faction Franchises?

Embracer Groups Heartless Shutdown Of Volition Hasn't Affected Saints Row's Future
Many fans are still waiting for a new instalment in the Red Faction franchise.

Since Volition has been active for over 30 years in the gaming industry and has provided gamers with numerous outstanding games over the years, it leaves us with the question of will PLAION be able to create these franchises with the same level of care and attention that Volition has over their many years of service in the gaming industry.

As always, when a franchise changes studios, there is always a learning curve for that studio to get to grips with the art style, mechanics, and systems that are being used within those franchises, as both Saints Row and Red Faction have always been unique games with Saints Row being a less serious GTA with a lot more humour and chaos and Red Faction with its satire and destructible environments that made the franchise so famous.

Whether or not PLAION will do these franchises justice is something to be seen in the future, but for now, it is a good thing that there are still developers working on these franchises and will be able to keep producing games in those franchises in the years to come.

What do you think about these franchises moving to PLAION? Will you be looking forward to the changes they could make to these franchises to bring them back? Let us know in the comments what you think!
