Elliot Page has admitted that he had shingles while filming Christopher Nolan’s Inception because he felt “out of place” in a “cast full of cis men.” The actor, who came out as homos*xual in 2014 and then as trans in December 2020, maybe a symbol of trans pride for numerous LGBTQ+ kids, but as he details in his just-published memoir, Pageboy, navigating his gender and s*xuality in the entertainment industry has not been simple.
Page talked about the toll stress had on him while he was filming Inception in 2009 with Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, and Cillian Murphy. In addition to discussing his gender problems while working with so many males, Page disclosed that he contracted shingles while filming the movie. Page came out as transgender in 2020, therefore when he was working on the Christopher Nolan movie, nobody knew about his ongoing struggles at the time.
Elliot Page Got Shingles During Inception Filming
Elliot Page played Ariadne, a graduate student with a good sense of architecture who is hired by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Dom Cobb to build various dreamscapes, in Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi thriller Inception, in 2010. One of many roles that helped Page, who was still masquerading as a woman at the time gain more notoriety, was Inception.
Page claimed he had shingles while making the movie and discussed his gender difficulties while working with so many men in his new book, Pageboy.
“Shingles popped out of my spine while filming Inception when I was 22,” Page wrote (via Insider). “Despite everyone being delightful to work with, I felt out of place. In a cast full of cis men, I did not understand the role I found myself in.” He added, “For the first two weeks of the film I joked I would be recast with Keira Knightley, and rightfully so.”
The enormous success of Inception turned out to be Page’s career’s pivotal moment. He gained notoriety thanks to the movie, which reportedly made over $836 million. However, the strain of hiding his true identity during that time hurt his health.
The varicella-zoster virus infection, known as shingles, presents as a painful rash and blisters. This ailment caused the actor to experience symptoms like headaches, fever, light sensitivity, and weariness even though it was not fatal.
Elliot Page Says He Had ‘S*x All the Time‘ With Juno Co-star Olivia Thirlby
According to Elliot Page, he and Olivia Thirlby “started having s*x all the time” after a passionate makeout session while they were filming the 2007 movie Juno. The 36-year-old actor wrote in his brand-new memoir, Pageboy, that he was “taken aback” when he first saw Thirlby.
“I was taken aback the moment I saw Olivia,” he wrote. “Embodied and bold, her long brown hair moved in slow motion. We were the same age, but she seemed so much older, capable, and centered. S*xually open, far removed from where I was at the time. But the chemistry was palpable, it pulled me in.”
The actor, who played Leah opposite Page’s pregnant character Juno, described Page as “embarrassingly shy” around her.
“She had much more experience,” he said. “I was closed off. It was rare I let anything in, but I felt comfortable with her, and I began to poke my head out of its shell. We became friends quickly, spending a lot of time together.“
Sharing details of their intimate relationship, Elliot added,
“We started having sex all the time: in her hotel room, in our trailers at work, and once in a tiny, private room in a restaurant. What were we thinking? We thought we were subtle. Being intimate with Olivia helped my shame dissipate. I didn’t see a glint of it in her eyes and I wanted that — done feeling wretched about who I am.”
The candid memoir Pageboy, which details Elliot Page’s experiences, was published on June 6. It offers readers a close-up look at the struggles and successes of a well-known Hollywood artist.
