It seems that the Elder Scrolls 6 release date may be sooner than we originally thought. That’s according to the lawyer for Microsoft who was on the stand for final day of the FTC hearing in Federal Court. Elder Scrolls 6 was one of the titles which was mentioned in the ongoing Microsoft vs FTC Trial and the lawyer claimed that the Bethesda title was projected to release much earlier than expected.
Elder Scrolls 6 Release Date – Here’s What Was Said in Court
We should note that the Microsoft Lawyer seems to have got himself a bit confused in his comments to the FTC, as he described the next instalment of the Elder Scrolls series as ‘Elder Scrolls 16’, with a targeted release date of 2026. He was quoted as saying;
“Could I clarify one issue that council raised with you, when you were asking about Zenimax and asked him to find a game that was most similar to Xbox, he mentioned Elder Scrolls. That is incorrect. There are two Elder Scrolls games, one is online called Elder Scrolls Online — that is a multiplayer game, it is on PlayStation today. The game he’s talking about Elder Scrolls 16… the projected release is 2026 as a single-player game. It is not anywhere similar to Call of Duty, which as you know is multiplayer and multi-platform.”
Elder Scrolls 16 we hear you say??? Yes, we know. This is obviously a reference to the Elder Scrolls 6 release date which was previously projected as a 2028 release. What we should note is that Bethesda’s newest open-world RPG Starfield, hasn’t even been released yet and this was certainly the developers main focus for some time. So either Microsoft’s Lawyer is privy to information that we don’t yet have or this maybe another error on his part.
It should also be worth noting the comments from Xbox boss Phil Spencer in the recent FTC hearing. He was quoted with the following;
“As I said, with Elder Scrolls VI, it’s so far out–it’s hard to understand what the platforms will even be at this point. It’s the same team that’s finishing Starfield, which comes out this September. So we’re talking about a game that’s like five-plus years away.”
This comment from Phil Spencer doesn’t really fill us with confidence that the statement from the Lawyer is accurate. But then again, Spencer did state that this is ‘potentially’ some time away and nothing is set it stone.
Now if your someone like me, who absolutely lived and breathed Skyrim and after your fourth or fifth playthrough, found that you were just desperate for a new Elder Scrolls title. You might find that time is slowly ticking by as you wait for the next instalment. Given that we Skyrim was released back in 2011 and Elder Scrolls 6 was only initially announced in 2019, it feels like fans of this series are being made to wait patiently. But how long is too long?
