With the hugely anticipated EA Sports FC 24 due to be released on the 29th of September 2023, EA Sports have released a statement that could be a lifeline for Mason Greenwood, at least in the gaming arena.
This comes after being loaned to Getafe from Manchester United earlier on this month, which in the football community was a massive shock as the Manchester United man has not played a game since January 2022, due to the well-known legal trouble he faced with charges including assault, attempted rape and coercive control.
It is important to say these charges where later dropped due to a withdrawal of a key witness, although the well publicized recordings were incredibly damning, and the court of public opinion were quick to decide his guilt, understandaby.
Will Mason Greenwood be in EA Sports FC 24?
With the speculation around Mason’s career, many surmised he may not feature in EA Sports FC 24, similarly to how he missed out on FIFA 23, but this is not the case. EA have released a statement addressing this potentially controversial and contentious decision.
“EA Sports FC 24 authentically reflects the active rosters of teams and clubs in the real world of football. As he (Greenwood) is now part of an active roster with Getafe CF, Mason Greenwood will be included in FC 24.”
Although he is included in the Getafe CF squad he did not make the cut for Ultimate Team, due to his transfer being passed the cut-off point for inclusion. EA have yet to confirm one way or the other if he’ll be appearing at a later date during one of their regular updates for the game mode, however.

Ultimate team is a game mode within EA Sports FC 24 where you build the ‘Ultimate Team’ of players. You earn and open packs to get cards which reflect players within the real world, and you have to make chemistry count within Ultimate Team to get the most out of your squad. This is undoubtedly the biggest mode for EA, both in time they develop and money they make, with the lootbox style aspect of the packs coming under fire regularly, for perpetuating gambling addiction.
How Much Backlash Will EA Receive for this Decision?
Many people around the world do not agree with this decision in regards to Mason’s previous alleged crimes, even though charges were dropped, politicians and other personalities such as Rachel Riley, a Manchester United fan were among many to voice their grievance with Mason playing again in a Manchester United shirt.
Many fans staged a protest against his potential return to senior duties, this came about when Manchester United were looking to reintegrate Greenwood into the club after the lengthy time out. People who spoke out against Greenwood were successful as the Manchester club have said he will not play in a United shirt hence the loan to Getafe CF. Many of the fans of Getafe CF also staged protests, but to no avail, as Greenwood did indeed end up joining the club. Will these same people make the same difficulties for the representative’s of EA Sports FC 24.
