Earning a reputation in Hollywood, Dwayne Johnson also qualifies as one of the greatest WWE legends. Winning a total of 17 championships during his wrestling tenure, the 51-year-old even tried his hands on soccer. However, despite being a champion within the circle, Johnson refused to wrestle a few WWE stars.
Despite planning to have a huge dream match at WWE WrestleMania 30 in 2014, between The Rock and Brock Lesnar, the match was later canceled. Refusing the biggest possible match, Dwayne Johnson failed to avenge his previous humiliation in the ring, against John Cena.

Dwayne Johnson Suffered Injuries And A Crashing Defeat
Despite having a decorated wrestling career, Dwayne Johnson was once set against John Cena, where he faced a major defeat. Although the duo had some bumps in their friendship, they were often set against each other to ignite a thrilling match. Following WrestleMania 28, where Johnson won against Cena, a rematch happened a year later, in which the latter bounced back and avenged his defeat.
Recalling The Rock’s match against Cena at WrestleMania 29, the former was brutally thrashed within the ring which made him suffer grave injuries. In the sequence of their epic encounter, Johnson was left with a torn abdomen and thus had to undergo surgeries. Evidently, John Cena clapped back after the 51-year-old initially mocked him, and admitted feeling personally offended about the mockery.
However, after defeating The Rock in the ring, Cena avenged his defeat and left Johnson in bad shape. WrestleMania 29 took a massive toll on Dwayne Johnson’s acting and wrestling career, as he had to undergo surgeries that caused major delays to his filming schedule. Furthermore, Johnson was even forced to decline his future WWE appearances.
Dwayne Johnson Refused Wrestling Against Brock Lesnar
A year after Dwayne Johnson faced a crashing defeat by John Cena in WrestleMania 29, he was supposed to have a huge dream match at WrestleMania 30. Desperately waiting to face Brock Lesnar and deliver the biggest show of the year, Johnson was forced to cancel his match because of his previous injuries.
Waiting for Johnson to avenge his previous defeat in WrestleMania 29 against John Cena, WWE wanted to have The Rock go one-on-one with Lesnar. Unfortunately, since the 51-year-old tore his abdomen during his WWE Championship loss, he couldn’t risk getting attacked by Lesnar. Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer stated,
“The Rock was going to star WrestleMania in 2014 with Brock Lesnar and, in fact, they were going to kick off the rivalry with an angle where Lesnar completely destroyed him on the Raw the day after WrestleMania 29 in 2013, but Rock was injured.”
Further, the injuries sustained by Johnson also forced him to delay filming for the Hercules (2014) movie. Thus, unwilling to risk two careers at once, Johnson choose to decline his match against Brock Lesnar and got busy with his filming schedule.
