Kang The Conquerer first appeared in the 2021 Loki season finale. He was introduced to the Marvel audience as the one behind the TVA, ie. Time Variance Authority in the series. Although his name is never mentioned clearly, he is referred to as ‘The Conquerer’, and fans were quick to recognize The One Who Remains as seen in Marvel comics.
In the comics, Kang plays a time traveler from the 31st century and is a frequent adversary to the iconic Avengers. Once Kang develops his ‘conquerer’ persona, his goal is to conquer different variations of the galaxy in the past, present, and future.
Recently, the character has made his big-screen debut with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Jonathan Majors Assault Allegations
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania actor Jonathan Majors has been charged with several assault and misdemeanor allegations. He has been accused of assaulting a woman during an alleged “domestic dispute”, according to the Manhattan district attorney’s office. A judge released the actor on basis of his own recognizance and issued his next court date as 8th May.
Majors’ criminal defense lawyer, Priya Chaudhary issued a statement about the accusations,
“Jonathan Majors is completely innocent and is provably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows,” the actor’s criminal defense lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, said in a statement on Sunday after he was arrested. “We are quickly gathering and presenting evidence to the District Attorney with the expectation that all charges will be dropped imminently.”
Ads for the US Army featuring Majors were also taken down following the news of his arrest. The army’s enterprise marketing office went on to say that they were “deeply concerned” by the allegations, even though Majors is considered to be innocent until proven guilty.
What Does This Mean for Kang’s Presence in the MCU?
Kang The Conquerer has recently been introduced as new the big bad villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania kicking off Marvel Studios’ Phase 5, the character may not be seen as often following his assault allegations.
During a chat with the D23: Inside Disney podcast published in March, prior to Jonathan Majors’ arrest for alleged assault, Stephen Broussard (VP of Production and Development) had discussed how Kang won’t be seen in most upcoming projects for the Multiverse Saga.
“So, it’ll set the table in interesting ways as you wade deeper into this character and what he means. I don’t think he’s going to appear in every film, as you say. Obviously, he probably won’t. I’ll also point back to what Kevin [Feige] said at Comic-Con, he branded the first cycle of movies was the Infinity Saga. We are in the Multiverse Saga. And that entails all sorts of things, right?”
Majors is set to reprise in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty scheduled for release in 2025. Although Marvel Studios has not issued an official statement following the actor’s arrest, fans can’t help but wonder how recent events would affect the trajectory of Marvel’s much-anticipated Phase 5.
