He has opened up about his love for the actor and has also shared that he was eager to work with him for a long time.
And he got the opportunity in the 2011 film Crazy, Stupid, Love. The duo collaborated once again for Adam McKay’s 2015 drama comedy The Big Short. The movie required its lead cast to tone down their good looks for their characters. However, Carell did not seem to be a big fan of his co-star’s look and claimed that he looked creepy.
Ryan Gosling’s Look Creeped Out Steve Carell
After working together on the 2011 romantic comedy, Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling once again shared the screen, alongside Brad Pitt and Christian Bale in the 2015 comedy-drama The Big Short. The biographical comedy about the 2008 financial crisis follows a group affected by the crisis.
Filmmaker Adam McKay wanted the cast of the film to change their look according to their characters in the movie and told them that they could not follow up on their movie stars’ image in The Big Short. “Everyone thinks of Wall Street as these polished guys, but these guys were characters, weird-looking dudes with strange clothes,” he shared.
And the transformation was shocking, not only for the audience but also for the cast of the movie. During an interview, the Vice actor shared that he was surprised to see Gosling’s look for the movie and even told him never to do anything like that again.
“Ryan stepped out of the trailer for the first time with hair and makeup, and I told him, ‘Don’t ever do that again,’” he recalled. The Oscar-nominated actor claimed that he did not expect him to look that “creepy,” unlike the classic handsome guy that he is.
