“Don’t ask me about the plot”: Helen Mirren Addresses Shazam 2 ‘Complicated’ Storyline Amidst Reports of Zachary Levi Starrer Having Worst DCEU Opening Record

One of the biggest fears that an artist could have is the possibility of no one understanding your work at all no matter how grand or minimal the ideas. This is exactly what the people behind the story of Shazam! Fury of the Gods will have to watch out for considering the report that it is said to have a convoluted plot.

Well at least that’s what Helen Mirren says, but if what she says is true, it could aid in the disastrous start of the movie at the box office. This all comes after the movie’s projected opening record was put up for question, and a confusing story isn’t going to help boost that at all.

Helen Mirren Says Shazam 2‘s Storyline Is Complicated

One of the biggest qualms of anyone wanting to get into superhero franchises and their massive lore is the need to watch the movies/TV series in order to get a firm grasp of what the grand story is. Much like the Marvel Cinematic Universe does, the DC Universe suffers from this very same problem despite the commercial success that has been achieved through this formula.

This could be a deterrent for new fans as well as the already existing fanbase from even bothering to keep up with the franchise at all. DCU’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods, however, has an entirely different problem, although it lingers along the same lines as the previous problem.

Helen Mirren, who plays the role of Hespera in the sequel hints that Shazam! Fury of the Gods has a pretty confusing plotline. During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, the Prime Suspect star seemed to feel annoyed when asked about the movie’s plot-

“Don’t ask me about the plot, it’s too complicated.”

Would this possibly be a major reason that bombs the commercial performance of a major superhero franchise release like Shazam! Fury of the Gods?

Shazam 2‘s Projected Opening Record Brings More Bad News

Dwayne Johnson involuntarily made a very big promise to many DC Universe fans with the extensive marketing campaigns for Black Adam. The antihero-focused movie failed to deliver in front of critics, but what’s even more disappointing is the fact that it didn’t fare too well at the box office either.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods‘ plotline has already been revealed by Helen Mirren to be pretty confusing, which could add to possible criticism over a convoluted plot. That will be looked at when the movie eventually releases, but the projected opening record of the 12th installment in the DCU might be a worrying point.

Box Office Pro’s forecasting of the Zachary Levi-starring movie’s earnings during its opening three-day weekend hint at numbers going from $43 million to $52 million. This may seem normal, but when you consider the fact that the movie’s predecessor earned $53.5 million in 2019 (the lowest DCEU opening at the time), the forecast becomes worrying.

The projected opening earnings don’t even match Shazam!‘s earnings four years ago, will the sequel be able to prove these calculations wrong?

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is scheduled for release on March 17, 2023.
