Brie Larson and Samuel L Jackson have a history together before their collaboration in the MCU as Nick Fury and Captain Marvel. The two actors have co-starred in Kong: Skull Island and Unicorn Store. Through both these films, the Room star and the Pulp Fiction actor became good friends and continue to share an easy professional and personal relationship.
Thanks to their rapport, Jackson and Larson have also shared a lot of information about each other, about happenings around the world, and in the film industry. By Jackson’s own admission, the US Presidential Election that saw Donald Trump becoming the US president, was an incident that affected Brie Larson very deeply.
Samuel L Jackson once Consoled Brie Larson After Donald Trump’s Win
Samuel L Jackson and Brie Larson have developed a pleasant and honest friendship over the years after having been co-stars not just in the MCU, but also in two other films, Kong: Skull Island and Unicorn Store. Jackson confessed that their camaraderie on the sets of Kong: Skull Island helped both actors to overcome their difficult experiences while working on the film. He also elaborated on the US Presidential Election involving Donald Trump and how his shocking win affected Brie Larson deeply. Speaking of the Oscar winner’s state of mind while making their film Unicorn Store, the Secret Invasion actor said,
“We bonded through the election while we were doing her movie when Donald Trump won. She was broken and I was like, Don’t let ‘em break you. You have to be strong now.”
Jackson also spoke of his experiences working with Brie Larson in her directorial venture Unicorn store and the organic way in which he was cast for the role.
Samuel L Jackson Is A Brie Larson Loyalist
Apart from the friendship and bond that he shares with Brie Larson, MCU star Samuel L Jackson is a staunch supporter of Larson and her strong feminist opinions on various issues. The Django Unchained star defended the Room actor after she was heavily criticized for her stance regarding the privilege wielded by white male critics during her Crystal Award acceptance speech in reference to her film A Wrinkle Time. To quote Larson,
“I don’t need a 40-year-old white dude to tell me what didn’t work for him about A Wrinkle Time. It wasn’t made for him. I want to know what that film meant to women in color, to biracial women, to teen women of color, to teens that are biracial.”
Following the backlash and harsh comments that the Captain Marvel actor received for her statement, Samuel L Jackson stood by his friend and co-star firmly and lauded her courage and forthrightness.
“These incel dudes who hate strong women, or the fact that she’s a feminist who has an opinion and expressed it? Everybody wants people to be who they want them to be. She is who she is, and she’s genuinely that.”
With The Marvels set to release on November 10th, 2023, it will be interesting to see Jackson and Larson’s chemistry as they share screen space once again as Captain Marvel and Nick Fury.
