Just because a director is in charge of an entire Marvel Cinematic Universe extravaganza doesn’t imply they’ll also be filming the different post-credits scenes that follow after the main narrative has concluded. Thor: The Dark World, whose stinger was directed by none other than James Gunn, is a prominent example.
The second Chris Hemsworth sequel is widely deemed as one of the MCU’s weaker entries and we are sure that director Alan Taylor dearly supports the notion. In fact, Alan Taylor has not only supported the sentiment but also voiced his dissatisfaction with the final product once the dust had settled on the Odinson’s sophomore standalone adventure.
James Gunn agrees that the post-credits scene was rushed
Alan Taylor, the director of Thor: The Dark World, came out against the film’s post-credits scene, which was directed by James Gunn, the filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy. When asked about the sequence in the film when it was originally released, Taylor said, “I absolutely did not [direct it]. I am very happy to not take responsibility.” Gunn claimed that “Alan apologized to [him] personally for those comments” in response to a fan’s tweet about Taylor’s less-than-supportive sentiments, but conceded that the sequence “was overall sort of rushed.”
“Alan apologized to me personally for those comments, so we are more than good. And that tag – although helpful in setting up the stones – and of course Benicio was amazing as always – was overall sort of rushed, tbh.”

There have been plenty of similarly hurried post-credits sequences in the past. Thanos taking a gold Gauntlet at the conclusion of Avengers: Age of Ultron is a classic instance of this—something that still makes no sense. Marvel Studios is undoubtedly hoping that the majority of viewers have forgotten about it.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2023.
