The face in itself has convinced the Marvel fan base as to who the Doctor Strange 2 villain will be.
Did you manage to catch this evil face? Well it is a blink and you miss it scene. Let us help you jog your memory.
Why There’s An Evil Face In Doctor Strange 2 Trailer?
Sam raimi is known by many to be a horror genre maestro. Comic book fans may better know him for his work on the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies. But true move geeks know how talented Sam Raimi is when he is given a horror movie project. He has worked in numerous horror movie masterpieces like Evil Dead, The Grudge, Don’t Breathe, and Drag Me To Hell. It was clear from the very beginning that Sam Raimi wanted to make a superhero horror movie with Doctor Strange 2.
He had made his intentions very clear even before production for Multiverse of Madness began. And the trailer for Doctor Strange 2 clearly respects his intentions. And that is why Marvel Studios let him put such a creepy and evil face in the trailer literally right under the Marvel Studios nose.
But who could this creepy face be? Let’s find out.
Chthon Is The Safest Choice Because Of The Darkhold
The Darkhold will play a major role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Now that Wanda forced it out of Agatha Harkness’ possession in the WandaVision finale, she is religiously going through it and learning all sorts of dark magic.
In the comic books. Chthon hailed from the most ancient of Gods – The Elder Gods. He was created out of the sentient life force of Earth’s biosphere. For millions of years, Chthon studied ancient black magic and became the world’s first dark magic sorcerer. When the Demiurge came for him, Chthon left for another dimension but left behind all his accumulated knowledge in indestructible parchments that eventually became the Darkhold. This history could be explored in Doctor Strange 2. As Chthon is an ancient dark magic sorcerer, him taking on a demonic appearance makes more sense.
Nightmare Has Fought Doctor Strange So Many Times
Nightmare is belongs to a group of entities called the Fear Lords. Each Fear Lord feeds on people’s fear to become stronger. A primary Doctor Strange enemy, Nightmare would make for a good addition to Sam Raimi’s horror aesthetics. His control over dreams make him a Freddy Krueger like figure of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Doctor Strange 2 trailer has already shown us what appears to be Shuma-Gorath (Name it whatever you want it Marvel but we know it’s him). In the comic books. Nightmare was once a servant of Shuma-Gorath before he escaped his master’s clutches and became the ruler of the Dream Dimension.
It’s Been Mephisto All Along
Well he has been teased quite a couple of times in the MCU already. WandaVision did us dirty by not giving the fans what they wanted. Then again in No Way Home, Marvel Studios adapted the One More Day story arc for the big screens. But Mephisto, who was a crucial part of the story in the comic books, was missing in the movie.
Maybe Marvel Studios is saving Mephisto up for a proper money shot moment. It would make more sense to pit a Demonic Hell Lord against the Sorcerer Supreme since the two have already fought a bunch of times and make for good supernatural rivals.
