This time, Disney did something rather ruthless as it fired producer, Galyn Susman as a part of its planned layoffs. She is the woman without whom Pixas as we know it today, wouldn’t have existed in the first place and the power who single-handedly saved the $3.2 billion Toy Story franchise.

It Took One Flop For Disney To Fire A Force Like Galyn Susman

After Lightyear (2022), produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios, proved to be a massive flop, Disney not only fired the film’s director, Angus MacLane but also the producer, Galyn Susman, who saved the Toy Story franchise from destruction. The step comes as a part of Disney’s planned layoffs, firing over 75 employees at their Pixar animation studio.

Besides Disney’s longtime producer, Galyn Susman, MacLane’s firing has also come as a shock considering the director’s 26-year tenure at Pixar worked his way from animator to blockbuster director. Susman is also known for producing movies like Ratatouille (2007) and Finding Nemo (2003).

Galyn Susman, born in Illinois, has been associated with Pixar since 1995. She has worked as a producer on 13 films along with her involvement in the crew of 7 others. Galyn Susman is often referred to as Disney’s guardian angel, for saving its $3 billion Toy Story franchise.

The co-founder of Pixar, Ed Catmull, who retired in 2019 recalled how an anonymous employee unintentionally entered the command code “/bin/rm -r -f*” in the root directory of the system where all files related to the blockbuster were kept. It was then that Galyn Susman, who had a copy of the movie at home, salvaged the situation, saving Disney and Pixar from a huge loss!
