According to insiders, Lucasfilm and Disney are concerned because of the ongoing Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists strikes. Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau would not be able to complete two more seasons of the show, needed to set up the base for The Mandalorian‘s originally planned film.

Hence to handle the situation, there are discussions about turning the fourth season into a movie. It would probably release after the previously-announced film dedicated to Rey, thus setting up the new Jedi Order.

Is there a story for Pedro Pascal’s The Mandalorian season 4?

Talking about the fourth season, there is no update on the release date yet. However, the show creator Favreau shared that the story for the fourth season is already written. He shared,

“Season 4? Yeah, I’ve written it already. We have to know where we’re going to tell a fully-formed story, so we had mapped it out, [executive producer] Dave [Filoni] and I, and then slowly you just write each episode. So I was writing it during post-production [on The Mandalorian Season 3] because all of it has to feel like a continuation, one full story.”

As per reports, despite having the script, the show will be impacted by WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, leading to its delay.
