Disney+ Percy Jackson continues its casting for the remaining characters of the show. This time, three major characters’ seats have been filled in: Sally Jackson, Mr. D., and Chiron. The upcoming show is a reboot of Rick Riordan’s best-selling children’s fantasy novel.
The said adaptation differs from the first two movies released by 20th Century Fox back in 2010 and 2013. The author will provide insight into the production of the series, and he has a role in the casting of characters.
On Percy Jackson Reboot
Percy Jackson and the Olympians follows the adventures of Percy as he finds himself grappling with demigods, monsters, and even the mighty gods of Ancient Greece. He is the son of Poseidon, god of the sea, and Sally, a mortal, therefore making him a demigod. With the help of his best friends, Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood, they will save the world from the evil gods who wish to destroy it.
Disney+ cast Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Aryan Simhadri as Grover, and Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase. Riordan announced on his official website that the new cast includes Virginia Kull as Sally, Jason Mantzoukas as Mr. D., and Glynn Turman as Chiron. Other minor roles have also been filled in, with Timm Sharp as Gabe Ugliano and Megan Mullally as Mrs. Dodds.
Casting Controversies
Fans have expressed their excitement about this whole reboot and the casting of characters. Still, many have also suggested bringing back the old cast, especially Logan Lerman who played the main lead in the movie. This time, fans proposed that he would play Poseidon.
Unfortunately, the casting also received quite a backlash. Jeffries being cast as Annabeth and Turman as Chiron stirred controversy online, saying they do not match the characters’ appearances. Riordan defended the actors and called these harsh allegations prejudiced.
