Discord set for Additional Xbox Support, with Streaming Direct from Console Inbound

A highly requested streaming feature for Discord is headed to Microsoft Xbox players, potentially in the coming months. The new support system will allow Xbox players to stream directly to Discord from their system. It is currently being tested with Alpha Skip-Ahead and Xbox Insiders, however, with such high demand it will likely land on consoles sooner rather than later.

This exciting Discord integration will be part of the “Parties & Chats” section of the Xbox dashboard as an option to “stream your game.” Microsoft has been continually improving the interconnectedness between Xbox and Discord over several months. Last year, users were met with a basic version of Discord, which allowed voice chat and call capabilities. This year will possible see many more improvements, as the system adjusts to the popular social platform.

The only downside users are seeing to this recent update, is that it will not include the ability to view other Discord streams. So, Xbox gamers will not have the ability to watch their PC friends play games in-system. This will have to be done through a different source such as the mobile app or the desktop version. An important aspect to note, with this new feature, is that Xbox is working to improve functionality with Discord. It appears the company is finally listening to fans and will possibly bring more features, like viewable streams, in the future.

Where Microsoft Xbox Might Be Going Next with Discord and Other Social Platforms

The future of gaming is certainly directed toward streaming, and it appears Microsoft is aware of that reality. The next few months and years will probably see the tech company doing more to include functionality between sites such as Discord, Twitch, YouTube, and more. Streaming is a way for influencers to spread their platforms, for hardcore gamers to show off their skills, and casual gamers to enjoy time with friends. Some use it as a method of making a living, while others just use it to enjoy sharing their playing experiences. It has become so universal for gamers and audiences, which will mean more integration could come from Microsoft.

Those who enjoy Discord might have been unlikely to use Xbox in the past, but could find their way to the system now. Almost every day recently, Microsoft has been working to bring more to compete with other consoles. Sony’s PlayStation 5 has had Discord streaming features for a while, so it was only a matter of time before Xbox adjusted this capability. Nevertheless, Microsoft continues to buy major developers and roll out fan requested options, which shows it is working on a strategic consumer plan.

Microsoft has been making a lot of business decisions lately, but it feels like a major move is still coming to the gaming industry. However it turns out, there appears to be something bigger at play than simply Discord streaming and Microsoft could be at the helm of that change. Bethesda Game Studios is locked in, the Activision-Blizzard deal is set to complete, and now the company is eyeing Sega.

When all the transactions are closed, there is a suspicion Microsoft will start making announcements and those decisions could turn heads. The company may be making friendly deals other companies now, but it could become more more adversarial in the future. Although previous statements indicate that Sega is not interested in being purchases by Microsoft, there are plenty of other developers the company could buy in the future.

What do you think of Microsoft adding a streaming feature for discord to Xbox? Will you be using it when it rolls out to all players? And is the company planning to expand in ways no one is expecting? Leave a comment and let us know your thoughts!
