Sasha Calle took up the role of Supergirl in Ezra Miller’s The Flash, replacing Henry Cavill in the spotlight as the only Kryptonian in DC’s movie universe. Her role in this movie was quite integral in the film, as well as the marketing campaign for it as fans had been anticipating a version of Kara Zor-El to appear in a movie for a very long time.
With the release of The Flash, it has severely underperformed. The movie has been receiving negative reviews left and right, along with leaks that showcase its poor design and CGI which has made many aversive to even watching it. With this, there also comes some bad news for fans of Supergirl.

Sasha Calle Hinted A Movie For Supergirl Before The Flash Released
While doing press for The Flash, Sasha Calle did an interview with Entertainment Tonight where she talked about wanting to continue playing Supergirl, but as her in the spotlight. The actress expressed her love for the Kryptonian as well as enjoying playing her, but she mentioned her want to have a deeper storyline for the character.
“Absolutely, are you kidding me? I love her so much and I feel her very deeply. I think this movie was a runway to a better story for her.” When asked about her own movie, “I just want to dive deeper into Kara and her feelings into her day-to-day. I would just love to see her in regular clothes, in human clothes. As a fan, the whole time that I was filming, I kept thinking, ‘What would she wear? What glasses would she wear?'”
DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran even had plans for a movie for the character, which would have been titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The actress went on to explain that she would like to see Kara in a different light than we did in Miller’s movie, stating that she wants her to be much more mundane and see her in a day-to-day setting.

Will Supergirl Return To DC After The Flash’s Ending?
An inside source has revealed that after the cancellation of the Batgirl movie, the possibility of the Supergirl movie moving forward was very slim. This has been made more concrete with the ending of The Flash, where Sasha Calle’s Supergirl dies. So the chances of this particular variant of Kara Zor-El returning for her own movie are very slim.
However, it would seem that Supergirl will still have a place in this new DCEU where James Gunn and Peter Safran are in charge, just not with Sasha Calle playing her. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is still scheduled in the first chapter of the DCEU, Gods and Monsters. Executives in charge of this movie have stated that they are figuring out who they would like to play the character. Casting for Superman: Legacy has already started however so it would seem that they will also bring in a new Supergirl.
