Disappointing News for Game of Thrones Fans as House of the Dragon Season 2 Gets Saddening Update

Just after fans said goodbye to Game of Thrones, HBO introduced its prequel, House of the Dragon which became among the most massive TV hits in its history. Due to its promising future, it even got renewed for another season, but not much is known about it. Given that the first season premiered last year, fans are eagerly waiting for the next story to be told but unfortunately, the new update is not positive.

The highly anticipated second season of the HBO series is likely to be put on hold amid the SAG-AFTRA strike.

House of the Dragon Season 2 Could Put on Hold Amid SAG-AFTRA Strike

The ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike was posing a delay in the development process of several films and television shows. However, the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), a union representing about 160,000 Hollywood actors poise to get on strike which is going to affect the ongoing development of House of the Dragon season 2. 

The second season was in production which recently completed its shooting in Spain and Wales. However, it is still not the end which means if no negotiation is compromised, the SAG-AFTRA will likely go on a strike affecting many projects including the Game of Thrones spin-off.

It is reported that multiple members of the show cast are part of the union, which naturally means that the production will likely be on hold. However, initially, it was on track despite the ongoing WGA strike.

House of the Dragon Was Previously on Time in Production!

The WGA strike was enacted in May, which was just weeks before the show started its production. Game of Thrones franchise creator, George R.R. Martin addressed the issue of season 2 getting possibly delayed on his personal blog stating,

“The second season of House of the Dragon started filming April 11 and will continue in London and Wales.”

He continued that the scripts were already finished months ago with a few revisions.

“The scripts for the eight S2 episodes were all finished months ago, long before the strike began. Every episode has gone through four or five drafts and numerous rounds of revisions, to address HBO notes, my notes, budget concerns, etc. There will be no further revisions.”

He further shared,

“The writers have done their jobs; the rest is in the hands of the directors, cast and crew… and of course the dragons.”

Given his statement, it was clear that the show can’t have any revision further, which made everything in the cast and crew’s hands. However, the show would likely be affected due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. The second season was expected to release somewhere around 2024 but it can stretch further given the disappointing update.
