Donald Trump is currently the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican White House nomination and could face Joe Biden again. He is being charged in both civil and criminal cases. Donald Trump shared a campaign ad that interestingly features a monologue Matt Damon says in one of his films.
In the meanwhile, the film’s production team denied giving permission for the same. The former President posted a fundraising video on his Truth Social account that combined images and videos of a monologue from Matt Damon’s character in the movie Air in with photos and videos of Trump.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Slammed Donald Trump’s Use of Air Footage in Campaign Video
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s production company issued a statement denouncing the unauthorized use of a speech from their recent movie Air in Donald Trump’s fundraising video.
“We had no foreknowledge of, did not consent to and do not endorse or approve any footage or audio from Air being repurposed by the Trump campaign as a political advertisement or for any other use,” Affleck and Damon’s Artists Equity said in a statement.
“Specifically in terms of any & all rights available to us under U.S. copyright and intellectual property law, we hereby, expressly give notice that in the case of any use of material from Air by the Trump campaign where approval or consent is required, we do not grant such consent.”
The movie, which came out earlier this year is set in the 1980s and tells the story of the revolutionary partnership that Michael Jordan formed with Nike’s emerging basketball division.
What is the Scene in the Film Air about?
Matt Damon appears in the aforementioned scene of the movie and is heard saying: “Money can buy you almost anything, but it can’t buy you immortality, which you have to earn.” In his role as a Nike executive, Matt Damon addresses young Michael Jordan in an effort to persuade him to sign a sponsorship deal with the shoe company.
In November 2022, Donald Trump announced his campaign for a second term as president. He insisted he would not withdraw despite facing 37 criminal counts for mishandling secret documents and obstructing the US Department of Justice’s investigation.
