Method acting is a technique or type of acting in which an actor aspires to encourage sincere and emotionally expressive performances by fully inhabiting the role of the character. This is a very sincere form of acting as it forces the performer to change his whole personality into something different from their own.

Actors and actresses who want to go above and beyond to give the audience the performance of a lifetime tend to turn towards method acting as a catalyst to instill the persona of the character that needs to be portrayed into themselves. This means these performers change everything about them to match the character, which in extreme cases, results in them staying in character till the shoot is done.

It might be commendable to these actors that they put so much effort into their roles, but sometimes those roles themselves are a bit… extreme.

So when you hear that Evan Peters had to remain in character for months to get it just right, and that character happens to be Jeffrey Dahmer, there is no way that it won’t raise all the possible red flags in your mind about him.

While shooting for Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Evan Peters, the actor who plays the titular role of Jeffrey Dahmer, said that he wanted to “dive into the psychology of that extreme side of human behavior.” Jeffrey Dahmer was one of the biggest and most heinous serial killers in the USA’s history. He was played by Evan Peters, and the actor didn’t back down to go as deep as possible with this character’s mindset. And there was no way he was going to half-ass it either.

During the four months of prep and six months of shooting, Murphy noted that Peters wore lead weights around his arms and lifts in his shoes to get Dahmer’s physicality down and “basically stayed in this character, as difficult as it was, for months.” When this news came out though, people were scared and confused, horrifically wondering how far did Peters go with Dahmer.

Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer, also known as the Milwaukee Cannibal or the Milwaukee Monster, was an American serial killer and sex offender who committed the murder and dismemberment of seventeen men and boys between 1978 and 1991. He was a mentally deranged and disturbed individual who had lost his rationality and sense of humanity. He was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, schizotypal personality disorder, and a psychotic disorder, but during the trial, was found mentally sane, which was even more disturbing and horrifying. He was considered to be one of the most dangerous serial killers and cannibals in American history, with his murders being found long after he had committed them.

When you see an actor so dedicated to his role, no matter how crazy or psychotic it might be, the only thing that they truly deserve is your utmost respect.
