What is the first image that pops into your mind when you think about ‘Leonardo DiCaprio in the 90s‘? You might be thinking of the young dashing 23-year-old DiCaprio playing the role of carefree Jack Dawson in James Cameroon’s most expensive movie of the time, Titanic. However, just like many young actors, the Inception actor also made some mistakes early on in his career some of them which he regrets to this day.
The Wolf of Wall Street actor’s bizarre photoshoot from the 90s
Everyone has bad pictures of themselves that they wish were just deleted and no one can see them again. However, things get a little bit trickier for the A-listers as their pictures just can not disappear altogether from existence. Leonardo DiCaprio also has similar pictures and we can only hope that he wants these pictures to disappear from existence.
Back in 1995, the American actor was a young talent and an aspiring actor and was already a famous celebrity. DiCaprio posed for a feature in a now ceased British magazine, The Face. Although DiCaprio was clicked by one of the best photographers of his generation, David LaChapelle, the pictures were a bit questionable though even for the 90s.
In one of the pictures, DiCaprio was seen holding a few bananas in his right hand while he half lay on a pile of fruits. It is the kind of picture that can make one go, ‘What the hell were they even thinking?‘
David LaChapelle also opened up in 2014 with Time Magazine about clicking those bizarre pictures and said, “I think Leo DiCaprio is still pissed off about posing with those bananas.”
Leonardo DiCaprio was sick of filming Titanic
Although the role of Jack Dawson in James Cameroon’s Titanic made Leonardo DiCaprio one of the most famous actors in the industry, the actor allegedly got frustrated while filming the movie. It was the biggest budget movie back in the day and had 14-hour long shoots in a day with multiple shoots of a single scene if Cameroon wasn’t satisfied with the first take.
DiCaprio once allegedly had enough of filming Titanic midway and according to Vanity Fair one day he just,
“ambled over to the set, took a good look at the four soundstages, the 17-million-gallon water tank, the smokestacks rising majestically against the sky, the hordes of extras running around in period clothes—and thought, ‘This is bullshit.’“
Titanic was a massive critical and commercial success at the box office as the movie went on to gross almost $2.25 billion against a production budget of $200 million. The movie also went on to win 11 Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director.
Titanic is currently streaming on Netflix.
