The director of the film Shawn Levy shared that although the movie had seen a halt in production, it was halfway through filming. He shared that he enjoyed filming and the incredible chemistry of its leading stars. The production will be resumed as soon as the issues of the striking writers are resolved.

It was a joy every day, and that chemistry is, I have to say — spoiler alert — as relentlessly awesome as we had all hoped it would be,” he told Deadline. Levy also reacted to the leaked snaps and shared some insight into the film’s production during a conversation with Deadline at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Shawn Levy Shared an Important Filming Detail About Deadpool 3

During his recent conversation with Deadline, Shawn Levy also shared an important detail about Deadpool 3. The director stated that he had been a big fan of the franchise since the very first movie and did not want to mess with it in any way. The threequel would be R-rated like the previous two movies in the film series, and Levy has kept it “raw [and] audacious.”

He further went on to state that unlike most superhero movies nowadays, the Deadpool threequel doesn’t rely on a digital environment. During an interview with Deadline, he said,

“We went to great lengths to not shoot it on soundstages with digital environments … we wanted something that felt grounded [and] real. The internet has proven that by revealing pictures of our shoot.”

The soundstage is an indoor environment in a large and empty space with high ceilings and walls, often multiple LED walls that can be set up according to the sequences in a movie. It has been used in multiple superhero movies, including The Avengers, Iron Man, The Dark Knight, and many others.

Filming in the digital environment helps to establish the fantastical and larger-than-life characters in such movies. However, Levy shared that he avoided using them as he wanted to keep the film grounded and real for the return of both Reynolds’ and Jackman’s most iconic characters.

Deadpool 3 is set to release on May 3, 2024.
