Dead by Daylight, the survival horror game created by Behaviour Interactive, has announced its next crossover event. The very popular asymmetrical horror title will be introducing Alien as part of its next DLC. Although details concerning the crossover are scarce at this time, the developer has promised more information will be available on August 8. In a post via Twitter/X the @DeadbyDaylight account posted the following information, with an attached announcement trailer:
“The suffocating silence of outer space pushes resolve beyond its limits.
Dead by Daylight: Alien. Coming soon.”
If you are interested in checking out the trailer, the Twitter/X post is attached at the bottom of this article.
Although it is unclear exactly what properties will be borrowed from Alien, fans are speculating over whether Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver in the films, will be a playable character. As the protagonist in the series it is very possible she and other human characters from the films could appear, given the history of the horror game. We have seen other horror heroes such as Laurie Strode, David Tapp, Ash Williams, Jill Valentine, and more, join as protagonists. It would certainly make sense fo the favored character to appear.
Dead by Daylight has had a plethora of iconic horror characters coming from well-known franchises. Gamers have seen characters from Halloween, Saw, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Evil Dead, Stranger Things, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Ring, Scream and more. Even Nicolas Cage recently joined as a playable character. Certainly players will be excited for Dead by Daylight to feature one more legendary villain to its every growing list of enemies.
The Future of Dead by Daylight and How It Compares to Other Crossover Games
Video game titles have become no stranger to crossover content in recent years. Fortnite is crossing over with Futurama, Call of Duty is crossing over with The Boys, and Dying Light 2: Stay Human is crossing over with The Walking Dead. There is no stopping the momentum of crossover titles, which has led to some debate amongst gamers. There are those who believe crossover games are exciting and fun, while others believe they take away from overall tone and gameplay.
A lot of these complaints are centered around more lighthearted titles like Fortnite, but there are rarely criticisms over the Dead by Daylight crossovers. This may be because all of the title’s selections are firmly rooted in the horror genre and fill the serious tone. Gamers do not have to worry about Freddy Krueger, Ghost Face or Michael Myers flossing after making a kill and taking away from the suspense. Dead by Daylight takes the selection process seriously, which may make it one of the most stable of DLC crossover games.
Dead by Daylight is also spreading outside of the world of video games, with a film adaption in the works by Blumhouse and Atomic Monster. It will likely feature more of the original characters from the game, however, fans can still hope easter eggs from these crossover franchises will appear. The Dead by Daylight team is also working on two more spin-off games, which will undoubtedly bring more success to Behaviour Interactive.
