Dark Souls is a Heavy Hitter
Dark Souls was developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment with the first game launching back in 2011. This saw two sequels in 2014 and 2016, respectively. Created by Hidetaka Miyazaki, the series has seen critical acclaim over the years, and this is probably due to it’s level of difficulty which being one of the highlights. And just to emphasise how popular the Dark Souls games have been, sales of the series have seen over 33 million copies shipped.
And with this adaptation, it could mark a new chapter for Netflix as this would see the game as the streaming company’s first original anime series.
Some fans on Twitter were quick to voice their excitement on this news;
“I’ve always wanted a dark souls anthology series. I hope they don’t butcher this!!!! #DarkSouls #Netflix #DarkSoulsAnime. “
“Interesting, if they can get a good studio behind it could be really good.”
“siiiick NGL I can get behind this one for sure. Netflix anime hasn’t disappointed me yet.”
But some fans were sceptical on the announcement;
“Yeah but the hard part is watching it before Netflix cancel it for ‘not having enough viewers’ And the punishing part is Netflixs overinflated prices.”
“not sure how I feel about this… I’m a ‘millennial’ player… meaning, I have THOUSANDS of hours on DS (DSIII alone)… I may well have 10K hours between them all (going back to Demon Souls)… I play it more than anything, even now… They will f**k it up.”
Seems like the news has certainly split the crowd!
