Daniel Radcliffe, who played the good boy throughout the Harry Potter film series, and his co-stars are known for pulling pranks on each other behind the scenes. But then, Radcliffe once took things too far with a prank he pulled on everyone’s beloved Hagrid, the late Robbie Coltrane, who passed away in October 2022.
Hagrid And Team Had To Hunt For A Turkish Cypriot
Daniel Radcliffe undoubtedly enjoyed his hilarious pranks on his co-stars, but there is one hoax he certainly felt guilty about. During an interview, Robbie Coltrane (who passed away on October 14, 2022) revealed how Radcliffe changed the language settings of his phone, leaving him “incapable of making any phone calls.”
The late Scottish actor once revealed:
“Because my phone was now in Turkish nobody could work out how to change it back into English and it became a bit of a problem.
Eventually, we found a girl in the Harry Potter make-up department who was Turkish Cypriot. She phoned her mum and was chatting away in great detail until they sorted it out.”
Even though Coltrane was able to solve the issue, Radcliffe felt extremely guilty for his actions and left him a note mentioning, “Dear Mr. Coltrane, I’m sorry I changed your mobile telephone into Turkish.” Rubeus Hagrid, being the sport he was, brushed off the prank with laughter.
Daniel Radcliffe Almost Wept At Emma Watson’s Hilarious Prank
Daniel Radcliffe isn’t the only master of pranks, Harry Potter’s Hermione Granger, played by Emma Watson, made Radcliffe almost cry, after the then-14-year-old actress tried to prank him with his favorite music group.

Radcliffe revealed in an interview:
“Emma Watson, when I was like 14, told me that one of my favorite bands had broken up. It was like, really early in the morning so I hadn’t even gotten that it was April 1st yet…
I was a fan of this band called the Libertines, who was very fractious and they might have broken up at any point, and she came in and went, ‘It’s happened, it’s finally happened.”
Before Radcliffe could weep, Watson immediately exposed the hoax, and said, “No, no, no, it’s a joke, it’s April Fool’s’,” all because his “face was like, ashen and lips quivered, definitely.” The franchise’s first film, Philosopher’s Stone, and the last part, Deathly Hallows – Part 2 are among the 50 highest-grossing films of all time.
All eight Harry Potter films, based on J.K. Rowling’s fantasy novels, are currently streaming on HBO Max.
