Ever since the inception of James Bond on the silver screen, the concept of Bond Girls has become a staple in the franchise after being portrayed by the likes of Rosamund Pike and Naomi Watts. However, in Daniel Craig’s case, the actor has been pretty outspoken about sharing his disdain for the concept and has expressed that they don’t exist in his movies.
Craig’s disdain for the concept of objectifying Bond’s female peers was witnessed during his first stint in the role of 007 when he stopped his co-star from stripping down in Casino Royale.
Daniel Craig helped Eva Green in scrapping down one stripping sequence in Casino Royale
Unlike most Bond Girls, Eva Green’s Vesper Lynd wasn’t just limited to her glamor. And her spin on the character was so much different than the previous interpretations that the actress didn’t even consider herself a Bond Girl. However, when the actress was asked to strip down for a sequence, Green wasn’t amused by the idea and was uncomfortable with the whole sequence.
Following this situation, her co-star Daniel Craig would come to her aid and help the actress in getting the unwanted scene removed. Green said,
“In the shower scene, you remember? they wanted me to strip down to my panties. We had a good fight about that. I used to go to Daniel and ask for his support. I’ve been n*de in a film before and found it very troubling, so I was quite glad not to be in this film”
However, this wasn’t the only occasion when Craig showcased his disdain for the representation of Bond Girls in the media and also explained that James Bond wasn’t someone to be inspired of.
Daniel Craig doesn’t see James Bond as the perfect role model for fans
Daniel Craig has previously voiced his opinion about his viewpoints regarding the character of James Bond. The Knives Out actor hasn’t backed away from expressing that he doesn’t consider James Bond the perfect role model for the audience. Even though he agrees that Bond is a fascinating character in himself and his flaws make him more interesting. Following his behavior toward women in general, he doesn’t think someone should be inspired by him. He said,
“Many men admire Bond for his way with the ladies. But let’s not forget that he’s actually a misogynist. What I’ve always tried to do is never judge him. He’s flawed, and his attitude towards the world and towards women is questionable, and I think that’s interesting”
Despite his few problems with the James Bond mythology, Craig didn’t fail to deliver an exceptional performance as 007 over his tenure as the character and cemented his place as one of the most iconic Bond.
Casino Royale is available to stream on HBO Max.
