Cyberpunk 2077 showcases its new DLC for the game at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live last month. The DLC, titled Phantom Liberty, is expected to launch later this month on the 26th of September.
CD Projekt Red (CDPR) confirmed that it will be the game’s first and only DLC. Once the DLC is out, the studio is planning to turn its focus on the next major title, which will be a new Witcher game.
Before PC gamers can go ahead and get hands-on with the DLC update on launch day, however, it’s advised they ensure their hardware can handle it.
Ahead of the DLC Release, Devs Advise Gamers To Check Their Hardware’s Cooling Systems
While fans are excited to see the return of Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand in the Cyberpunk 2077‘s DLC, they are being forewarned by game developers to check their hardware’s cooling system to ensure the game doesn’t melt their CPUs.
Lead Scene Programmer CD Projekt Red S.A, Filip Pierściński, has listed the recommended hardware setup for gamers to prepare their desktops before they get hands-on with the new DLC.
Immediately after his post, a lot of gamers took to commenting, concerned whether their hardware might not be sufficient to run the DLC. Pierściński spent time responding to those who commented and clarified himself to their concerns. He later released the requirements to help the gamers understand his post better.
Pierściński went on to clarify the intention behind his post by highlighting the need to maintain the cooling systems and have them checked regularly. He also stressed the fact that neither the 2.0 update nor the DLC, Phantom Liberty, will “melt” PCs and that the game should perform perfectly fine on recommended hardware.

CD Projekt Red Moving to Unreal Engine After Phantom Liberty Release
Director, Swen Vincke, mentioned that the main reason why Phantom Liberty will be the only DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 is because of the studio’s decision to move to Unreal Engine.
While the upcoming Witcher title might still take a few years, the studio’s decision to move to Unreal Engine has brought approval from the gaming community, especially after the buggy release of Cyberpunk back in 2020. CDPR is also rumored to be working on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, which is code-named Orion for now.
Here’s to hoping the upcoming Witcher game and any planned sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 leads to a better experience than what gamers faced three years back.
