Amber Heard is severely facing some hard times in the entertainment industry since her contentious legal battle with her ex-husband Johnny Depp. In fact, her role in the upcoming superhero film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has received more attention than the film itself just three months before its release in theaters.
Due to her previous court appearances alongside her former husband, attention has often focused on the actress. Depp fans have demanded Heard be dropped from the DC sequel, and the actress’s own supporters have threatened to boycott the film if her role has been reduced or eliminated altogether.
Well, now, James Wan, the film’s director, has revealed some intriguing details that shed light on Heard’s ‘reduced’ part in the narrative.
Aquaman Director Addresses Amber Heard’s Role
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom director James Wan addressed claims that Heard’s role in the sequel was diminished.
The Australian filmmaker insisted that the film’s intended focus has always been the brother dynamic between Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry and Patrick Wilson’s Orm Marius. Thus he specifically denied the focus between Arthur and Mera:
“I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go. The first Aquaman was Arthur and Mera’s journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm.”
In contrast to the first installment of the franchise, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is a “bromance action-adventure movie”, according to the director, who further adds:
“So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one is a bromance action-adventure movie. We’ll leave it at that.”
Meanwhile, Heard spoke about her upcoming return to the DCEU in a previous interview in July 2023, revealing to Deadline:
“‘Aquaman,’ that franchise and the machinery behind it, I’m very honored, honored to be a part of that. And then there are these small passion projects like ‘In The Fire,’ where I’m proud to have gotten to know the filmmaker and the cast, and we got dirty together, to breathe life into this story. There’s something cool about that, and I think success is an actor who is able to have both those things.”

However, some people think that nobody wants to “see Amber Heard anyway”:
Heard should be fortunate because her role was not “completely cut”, one user added:
There was also a Johnny Depp supporter who insisted on a fair deal to follow one rule for both men and women:
One of the users added:
