Michael B. Jordan’s Creed 3 sets an impressive score on its first round as opening night churned $22 million at the box office. This number includes $5.45 million from the early preview screenings. The Rocky spinoff marks the ninth installment in the franchise, as well as Jordan’s directorial debut.
Although the third installment in the Creed franchise did not include Sylvester Stallone, the predictions are quite high, as the film is expected to reach $50 million at the end of its opening weekend. It is also projected to become the highest-grossing Creed film in the entire Rocky series.
Creed 3 Scores Excellent Ratings And Brings Victorious Opening For Amazon
Creed 3 has received positive early reviews and reactions from fans and critics, boosting the film’s credibility and popularity among audiences. Currently, it has a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an A- grade on CinemaScore. The stellar reviews and public hype should attract more viewers in the coming days and will most likely surpass its production budget of $75 million.
Starring Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors, Creed 3 follows Adonis Creed as he contends against his childhood friend turned rival, Damian Anderson, inside the ring. Other casts include Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, Wood Harris, and Florian Munteanu. Stallone left the film due to creative differences, although he remains part of the production.
MGM is also bringing Amazon its biggest win yet as Creed 3 sees the company’s biggest box office opening. In just a single day, it set the record for the highest weekend movie debut that Amazon distributed in theaters.
Michael B. Jordan Talks About Expanding Creed Universe
Speaking with Screen Rant, Jordan talked about exploring the Creed-verse and that there are more surprises in store for the fans:
“You will see the Creed-verse continue to grow and expand. I think that we invested in some really interesting characters that I think a lot of people were responding to. I have to give a political answer to that. There’s going to be more of the Creed family, and there’s gonna be more of some of the characters that you love from this movie.”
With a successful career and a roster of upcoming projects, Jordan admits he still has to prove himself. He shared with Variety:
“I’m not ignorant of the blessings and opportunities that I’m given. At the same time, I still feel like I have something to prove. I still feel like I want to make people proud. I want to make myself proud — so I’m constantly trying to raise the bar.”
The actor also confessed that filming Creed 3 allowed him to face his own demons. He called it his “therapy session”:
“We’ve all dealt with childhood trauma in one way, shape, or form. As a man, you know, sometimes we’re taught that we can’t talk about those things and speak about our feelings as much. I want it to show a representation of what that looks like.”
Creed 3 is expected to sweep the box office and knock out other titles in theaters in the coming weeks. With a promising theatrical debut and positive reception from the public, the franchise is set to create its own universe in no time.
