Clint Eastwood‘s portrayal of the gritty and no-nonsense police detective led to the franchise becoming a critical hit, quickly becoming part of the popular culture. Catchy phrases and the franchise’s way of portraying law enforcement have made Clint Eastwood and the $22 million franchise gain a strong fan following. Liam Neeson and Jim Carrey joined the franchise in the final movie released in 1988, The Dead Pool.

With such a huge fan following and its significant impact on cinema, it was obvious that Eastwood would want to revive it. Hence, back in 2005 the Unforgiven star teamed up with Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment for the development of a series of video games based on Dirty Harry and was even going to lend his voice to the game as well as creative input.

”This will be an opportunity to satisfy the many requests over the years to continue the Dirty Harry legacy, only now in the video game medium. Creating Dirty Harry video games will also introduce this memorable film character to new generations on a medium they appreciate.”

Unfortunately, the idea never took off due to various reasons and was ultimately shelved.

It has been more than 50 years since the first Dirty Harry movie was released. Since then fans have been keen on getting a remake. While there have been many attempts at rebooting the popular cult classic, none have ever taken off due to a variety of reasons.

Even though the lead, Clint Eastwood, himself expressed he doesn’t care if it is ever rebooted, there hasn’t been any news in a long while. While there have been no rumors or speculations, one can’t help but wonder how perfect Scott Eastwood be to step into his father’s shoes if there was ever a remake.

Having the same charming looks and piercing eyes, the young Eastwood prodigy would make an amazing Dirty Harry in potentially what can be a modern setting.
