The actors finally crossed paths in the MCU in Avengers: Endgame. The film was not the first time the two actors have collaborated together. However, Brie Larson does not seem to remember that the pair had worked together in a film before.

Contrary to popular belief, and even that of Brie Larson, Avengers: Endgame was not the first time she and Scarlett Johansson worked together on a film. The pair had worked together on the romantic comedy Don Jon. The independent film was directed by actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt in his directorial debut and starred him along with Johansson and Julianne Moore.

The film also starred a bunch of other prominent actors despite being produced on a shoestring budget of $7.5 million. It featured actors such as Channing Tatum, Anne Hathaway, and Cuba Gooding Jr. in supporting roles. It also starred Brie Larson in a small role as Monica Martello, the sister of Gordon-Levitt’s character, Jon Martello Jr.

Larson has spoken about how she had a lot of fun just observing on the sets of the film. In an interview with Elle, she said,

“I got to be the true observer the entire time. I worked on Don Jon for two weeks, but except for that one scene, I didn’t say anything! The best part of my job is getting to listen…I love getting to fall into what other people are saying and just react. In a way my character is like the audience: She’s in on the joke.”

Scarlett Johansson on the other hand played the character of Barbara, who is the love interest of Jon. She was the lead actress in the film. However, Larson seemed to have forgotten this fact.

When Brie Larson Forgot That She Had Worked With Scarlett Johansson Before

During the promotions for Avengers: Endgame in 2019, Scarlett Johansson and Brie Larson attended the talk show The Ellen Show. The pair revealed that they had actually shot for Avengers: Endgame even before Larson started filming Captain Marvel. The final two Avengers films of the ‘Infinity Saga’, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were shot back to back.

When host Ellen DeGeneres asked if the two had met before filming and where was their first meeting, the two had different answers. While Johansson was on the right track, Larson seemed to have forgotten. She referred to a dinner the actors had attended on New Year’s Eve. However, Johansson reminded Larson that they had actually met on the sets of Don Jon. Johansson said,

“Clearly it made an impression on me but somebody else didn’t care. We worked together. We did this movie called ‘Don Jon’. And we did a couple of scenes together. Shame on you [to Brie].”

Brie Larson tried to cover it up by saying that she was a ‘glorified extra’ in the film and that she was just in awe of Scarlett Johansson. But then she admitted to being embarrassed about forgetting their first interaction ever.
