After wrapping up his role as Captain America in Avengers: Endgame (2019), Chris Evans recalled his role as MCU’s Human Torch in Fantastic Four (2005) and its sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). Thus, speaking with MTV News in 2022, the actor even confessed his desire to reprise his preferred role as Johnny Storm over Steve Rogers.
While Chris Evans seemed extremely hopeful about his appearance in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, Marvel seems to have ditched him for a newcomer. Reportedly finding their Johnny Storm in the Stranger Things actor Joseph Quinn, MCU seemingly turned heads with the recent speculation.
Chris Evans Desired To Return As MCU’s Johnny Storm
Before Chris Evans associated with MCU for nearly a decade as Captain America, he appeared as Johnny Storm aka Human Torch in the Fantastic Four movies. Although his roles were negatively reviewed in Fantastic Four (2005) and its sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007), Evans seemingly preferred being Human Torch over Captain America.
Reflecting upon his role as Johnny Storm before dedicating himself for a decade as Captain America in various MCU tentpoles, Chris Evans mentioned his desire to reprise his 2005 character. Speaking with MTV News, the actor expressed, “God, wouldn’t that be great?” when asked about his return as Johnny Storm.
“I mean, I don’t exactly look the same anymore. That was 15, almost 20 years ago. Oh my God, I’m old. But I really love that character,” Evans shared.
Further, being informed about the Fantastic Four reboot currently in development, the actor confessed how he would really appreciate the opportunity to play Human Torch, all over again. “I would love it. That would actually be an easier sell to me than coming back as Cap. Cap is so precious to me…But Johnny Storm, I feel like he didn’t really get his day.” Evans shared.
Marvel Reportedly Found Johnny Storm In Joseph Quinn
Following Chris Evans’ interview with MTV News in 2022, Marvel Studios began working full-fledgedly on their Fantastic Four reboot, before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes made the progress take the back seat. However, on a recent note, reports surfaced about the ongoing casting of the characters in the upcoming movie.
With director Matt Shakman promising to start filming and production by early 2025 in order to schedule its release later that year, Marvel seems to be focusing on the casting of the actors. Thus, reflecting on the casting news, Jeff Sneider recently revealed how MCU is reportedly eyeing a newcomer to play the role of Johnny Storm.
Allegedly ditching Chris Evans, despite his desire to reprise his role, MCU seems to have reportedly found its Human Torch in the Stranger Things actor Joseph Quinn. Evidently, fans had been predicting something like this for quite a while. And although it’s still speculation since Quinn and MCU are left to comment on the report, fans appear overly excited.
