Tatum landed his first big screen breakout role opposite his then co-star and now ex-partner Jenna Dewan in Step Up. Behind the scenes of the movie set, love blossoms between the two, and they begin dating. The former couple announced the news of their wedding and walked down the aisle on July 11, 2009, in Malibu, California. However, their decade-long marriage shattered in 2019 as they announced their legal separation. His former wife once claimed after their split that they remained friendly and shared a positive bond.
“We started out as friends, and I would say it was an instant recognition. When we met [on the set of Step Up in 2005, it felt like we had known each other for many years. Ultimately, no matter what Chan and I are doing, we’re really great friends. I think that will never change, no matter what,” Jenna Dewan claimed.
In an old interview, Channing Tatum once revealed how he met his former flame and his experience sharing his on-screen kiss with her in the 2006 movie Step Up.
“I was reading with all the girls for Step Up, and she walked into another girl’s audition. I remember her breath being bad when we actually had a kissing scene. She loves it when I bring that up. It actually got better, I married her,” The Lost City movie star said.
During their decade-long relationship, the former couple made several head-turning red-carpet and award-show appearances and welcomed their daughter Elizabeth Maiselle Tatum from their marriage.
Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Recall Their Initial Dating Days
The former couple once shared a hilarious anecdote from the initial days of their dating. Dewan told Cosmopolitan that she wasn’t sure of her feelings when they first met though they felt an instant connection.
“I was smart enough not to get my feelings wrapped up in it. I figured we might just be into each other because we’re shooting a movie. I said, ‘While you’re figuring that out, I’m not just going to hang out and watch movies and flirt. I’ll see you on-set,’” she said.
The actress continued,
“It was two nights of being weird. We hadn’t even kissed. And then he went out partying with a bunch of dancers. His room was right above mine, and he came down drunk with a sombrero on, banging on my door. He was like, ‘I couldn’t stop thinking about you. Let’s do this. I just want to be with you.’ From that point forward, we were together.”
Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan have remained friendly after they split. Their love story ended in 2019 that began on the sets of their film Step Up.
