Died at the young age of 43, it has been almost 3 years since Chadwick Boseman left us, but he is still on everybody’s minds for being a gem of an actor. In his career as an actor, Boseman played several roles that got people to talk about his emotional range and acting depth. Needless to say, he had left a lasting impression in the minds of the audience, but his portrayal of King T’Challa/ Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe made everyone a fan of his acting.
Hence, Black Panther went on to become one of the major Marvel franchises. The film was phenomenal, as it was perfect featuring jaw-dropping action sequences, a gripping plot, and mesmerizing acting from the cast. The 2018 film featured many iconic moments in the film, but something which went unnoticed by the fans was that the film also featured a cheeky reference to the popular 1989 film, Back to The Future Part II.
Black Panther’s Iconic Scene Was A Back to The Future Reference
Marvel tends to have a few pop culture references in their projects, Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther was no exception to the references as the scene featured King T’Challa and his little sister Shuri. Before going to South Korea to capture the arms dealer, Ulysses Klaue, T’Challa goes to pay a visit to his sister in the lab.
Shuri scolds her brother for wearing open-toe sandals in her lab, but he did not wear them for long, as she gave him a futuristic pair of shoes. She refers to those shoes as being “fully-automated,” also the shoes manifested around his feet almost instantly, she called them “Sneakers.”
Movie connoisseurs understood which Back to The Future Part II, Marvel tried to refer to in their 2018 film. However, for the young audience who have not watched the 1989 film, the sci-fi film featured Marty McFly, his girlfriend, Jennifer Parker, and Emmett “Doc” Brown going to the future to prevent an event that damages the Latter’s family.
The plan involved Marty McFly dressing as their future son, and Brown gave him a jacket, cap, and a futuristic pair of Nike Mags. The coolest thing about the shoes was that they had automated laces. The shoes became iconic and fans desired to have those shoes for themselves. Sadly, Nike has not successfully created shoes with the capabilities from the movie, but they did create replicas of the shoes in 2011.
Chadwick Boseman Believed Black Panther Was More Than a Superhero Film
Phase 4 of Marvel was one of the most successful phases of the franchise as it featured numerous movies which were a hit both, commercially and critically, but everything changed when Black Panther was released. Led by Late Chadwick Boseman, the film became an instant hit on its opening day, and it generated $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office, a figure that some franchises can only dream of. However, for Boseman, the 2018 film was much more than a box-office hit.
In an interview, the Draft Day actor stated how he felt becoming a global sensation for playing the role of King T’Challa/ Black Panther. Chadwick Boseman was asked how he was preparing for his then-upcoming film. To this question, he replied that he was grateful for being a part of the massive franchise, and for him, it was never about making money, but the honor that received through Oscar nominations which meant more than the billion dollars earned at the box office.
“It’s not even the success, it’s just the impact of Panther is more important than the amount of money it made or whatever, even that it was part of an awards campaign, which is not a normal thing for a superhero movie. That is a height. I can’t deny that because I felt it sitting there at the Oscars. I felt okay, this is a thing. Not just because it was a superhero movie, because it was black people in a superhero movie.”
And just like that, Chadwick Boseman left an unprecedented legacy as King T’Challa and MCU fans witnessed one of the best actors showcasing his greatness on the silver screen.
