Although Henry Cavill is popular among his fans for his courteous manner and kind attitude, not everyone feels the same way about the Man of Steel star. Following his departure from The Witcher, the actor was accused of being toxic towards women on the set of the Netflix show. However, that was not the first time Cavill became the subject of controversy. The Justice League star came under fire for his comments about how he was hesitant to approach women following the #MeToo movement.
Henry Cavill’s Inappropriate Comment About Approaching Women
Henry Cavill’s fans have always seen the Hollywood star as a true gentleman. Still, the actor has been constantly called out for his behavior toward women. And being one of the most sought-after actors in the industry, his candid behavior during interviews has landed him in trouble several times.
Cavill faced backlash for something similar after his interview with GQ Australia in 2018. During his interview, The Tudors star talked about how he has become hesitant to approach or flirt with women, following the #MeToo movement.
Talking about how things have changed over time, Cavill said that it is important to “retain the good things” and get rid of the “bad things.” He further mentioned that he may sound old-fashioned, but he thinks, “a woman should be wooed and chased.” He described it as the “traditional approach”, saying there is something wonderful about it.
However, due to the #MeToo movement, he couldn’t approach women as he fears being called “ra*ist or something.” He also explained how this leads people to get back into a relationship that did not work in the first place.
“So you’re like, ‘Forget it, I’m going to call an ex-girlfriend instead, and then just go back to a relationship, which never really worked,” Henry Cavill said. His comments about the “traditional approach” toward women and the #MeToo movement caused a huge backlash. After this, he released an apology clarifying his statement.
Henry Cavill Apologized For His Controversial Comments
Followed by the backlash, Henry Cavill apologized for his comments, saying that being insensitive was never his intention. He said that he wants to apologize for any “confusion and misunderstanding” caused by his statements about his feelings on “dating and the #MeToo movement.”
He also said that he has always “held women in the highest of regard” and will continue to do the same as a friend, colleague, and significant other. He said, “Never would I intend to disrespect in any way, shape, or form.”
The Mission Impossible star is currently in a relationship with the Hollywood executive Natalie Viscuso. The couple has been together for almost two years. They are also working together on Cavill’s upcoming project based on the popular tabletop game Warhammer 40,000.
