Starring in the Star Wars franchise was a life-changing moment for Carrie Fisher. The When Harry Met Sally actor was just 19 when she featured in A New Hope. There had been no turning back for her since then, with her name becoming synonymous with Princess Leia. But it wasn’t all bright for her back then. Years down the lane, Fisher would mull over how there was one thing that kept egging her (and how she could talk about it to no one).
Carrie Fisher looked out for Daisy Ridley
The cast of the original Star Wars trilogy reunited after a period of 3 decades for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Apart from the return of the old guard, the movie would also experience an influx of new blood into the movie, with the likes of Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, and John Boyega joining the movie.
Over the course of the shoot, Carrie Fisher bonded with the Chaos Walking star. The Scream 3 star provided someone in whom Ridley could confide, something she desperately needed at the time of New Hope.
Carrie Fisher was going through a tough time back while shooting the sequel trilogy
Looking back at the old days, in an interview with NPR, Carrie Fisher lamented that she never had someone whom she could fall on. In her teens at the time, the experience of working with George Lucas and Co. was something altogether different for her. What made the situation more difficult for her to manage was the affair with Harrison Ford. She said,
“I didn’t have anyone to confide in. I had no friends, and I couldn’t talk about [the affair with Ford] because he was married.”
The Burbs star would have a hard time dealing with her thoughts. Things went back to normal only after she started venting her emotions in a journal.
Carrie Fisher shared some words of wisdom with Daisy Ridley
The late actress was determined that her co-star should have a better experience than her. Fisher would share her experiences and the lessons she learned from her time while working on the film with the 31-year-old.
While in a conversation on Interview (via Collider), Fisher once shared how Star Wars changes one’s dating life. She also told the Ophelia star to take her stand when it matters. She told Ridley to ensure that she was not pushed into a spot of bother, like the time Fisher found herself in the role of a slave. She said,
“Well, you should fight for your outfit. Don’t be a slave like I was.”
Daisy Ridley said, “All right, I’ll fight.”
Looking back, the Peter Rabbit star considered it a shame that she couldn’t learn more from her co-star.
