Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the highly-awaited title will be released on November 10, 2023. The game will continue the story of the last two MW games. It may also bring plenty of characters from the classic MW Trilogy and although it is confirmed that MW3 will bring Vladimir Makarov, it hasn’t been revealed which characters are coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Fans could still witness the return of their favorite characters from the previous two games alongside some new ones in MW3.
Expected Characters to Return in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3
There were many surviving characters in Modern Warfare 2 and will expectedly return with the continuing narrative. The special ops unit, Task Force 141 was headed by Captain John Price and the end of the game saw Station Chief Kate Laswell and Price and the threats posed by Makarov, with the trailer of MW3, it is sure that he will return as the villain. Players can also expect to see the return of many original MW3 characters, for example, Sandman, Frost, Grinch, and Yuri. These characters have not been featured in the MW reboot trilogy, but there could not be a better time than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to bring these characters back. Note that all these characters are not confirmed to feature in Modern Warfare 3.

Captain John Price
Captain John Price is a main character in the Modern Warfare series and as he headed Task Force 141 in MW 2 he could be back in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. He is also on the cover of Modern Warfare 3 and might reprise his role in the sequel. Captain Price was previously voiced by Barry Sloane in Modern Warfare 2. The fan-favorite mustachioed character is still going strong after having a long history in the Call of Duty franchise, and with the continuation of the story in MW3, his return would make sense.
Sergeant John ‘Soap’ MacTavish
Sergeant John MacTavish, also known as Soap, could return as one of the major Modern Warfare 3 characters and work with Captain Price to take care of Vladimir Makarov. MacTavish is one of the most important characters in the games who first appeared in the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. He is a vital member of the special ops unit, Task Force 141 with Kyle ‘Gaz’ Garrick and Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley.
Vladimir Makarov
Vladimir Makarov is the leader of the Ultranationalists after Victor Zakhaev’s death and the main villain in the many incidents that took place in the previous two games. Modern Warfare 3 will bring Vladimir Makarov center-stage again and will see Task Force 141 try to put an end to the threats he poses. In MW2, Makarov’s soldiers hijacked a Russian airliner and showed the “No Russian” sign. This is a throwback to a mission of the same name in the original MW2 game and a similar event could likely take place in the main campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
General Shepherd
General Shephard is one of the main villains of the previous game and he might feature in the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. He is well known and hated for his elimination of Ghost in the original MW2, and with his revival in Modern Warfare 2 (2022), he could return to cause more mayhem. Although he is a very controversial character in the series, players saw a positive transformation in the character. In the previous game, General Shepherd made a deal with Shadow Company for off-record smuggling operations in the Middle East and tried to cover his tracks, all while looking for Task Force 141 and Los Vaqueros.
Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley
Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley is a fan-favorite character better known by his alias Ghost and one of the main protagonists in the game. The iconic character dons his signature skeleton mask and looks to finish a mission no matter how deadly the situation is. Although Ghost died in the original MW2 at the hands of General Shephard, he is still alive in the reboot trilogy and could also return in Modern Warfare 3. However, if he returns, it may be Ghost’s last appearance.
Kyle ‘Gaz’ Garrick
Kyle ‘Gaz’ Garrick first appeared in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and is another important protagonist of the past games. He is also known as the right-hand man of Captain Price and as a member of Task Force 141, it will not be surprise if he comes back in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to help defeat Makarov. In the original game, Gaz was praised for his massive loyalty, which led to him being eliminated by the terrorist leader, Imran Zakhaev.
Station Chief Kate Laswell
CIA Station Chief Kate Laswell was an important character in the first two reboot game campaigns where she used to oversee the main operations to stop Al-Qatala and other similar threats. She helped Captain Price’s Task Force 141 to eliminate threats posed by General Shepherd, and she is expected to return in Call of Duty: Modern 3 and help the Special Ops unit again.

Colonel Alejandro Vargas
Colonel Alejandro Vargas is the leader of the Los Vaqueros, the unit of the Mexican Special Forces who helped the counter-terrorism unit, Task Force 141 in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. While it’s not confirmed if Vargas will return to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, considering their great character, it shouldn’t be a surprise if the Tier One operator provided some extra help to Task Force 141.
Commander Farah Karim
Commander Farah Karim was a protagonist in Modern Warfare (2019) but only returned in a small supporting role in the Modern Warfare 2 campaign. She also later became a playable character in the Atomgrad Raid missions and might return in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. She is a friend of Captain John Price and Gaz and helped them to save Laswell when she was kidnapped by Al-Qatala. She also sides with the 141 unit opposing the use of a deadly warhead by her brother Hadir.
