Bill Skarsgård Reveals How He Prepared For His Role in The Movie
In a sit-down interview with Collider, the John Wick: Chapter 4 star spoke at great length with the outlet and shared how he prepared for his role. Bill Skarsgård claimed that to portray his character in the film, he worked on his accent and voice. The actor explained,
“I play around with a lot of different versions of what this thing might sound like. The voice had changed a lot from the first time I had auditioned. I explored different versions of it, and what would resonate the most with the audience. It was really when we did the full make-up test and see what the character would actually look like…it’s a very abstract way of preparing for something when you have no idea what he will look like.”
Bill Skarsgård continued,
“I wanted to make something that I would be scared of. So an important thing for me in terms of preparing and creating the character was thinking, what are the things that I would find really unsettling? And then explore that. Your own kind of fears and what you find disturbing amplify that in terms of the performance. Essentially, what you’ll end up seeing in the film is my; own deepest fears embodied in this character.”
During his appearance on the American talk show Conan, Bill Skarsgård revealed the origin of the smile he portrayed in It, claiming his older brother’s smile inspired him,
“It’s a funny story because my older brother, Gustaf [Skarsgård]…he had this ability to point his lip in a very strange way. For some reason—I don’t know how—I understood that I could do it as well.”
Director Andy Muschietti’s 2017 directorial It stars Jaeden Lieberher, Bill Skarsgård, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, and Chosen Jacobs. At the time of its release, it became a commercial hit movie by grossing over $701 million at the global box office.
