Carrie Fisher was an American actress, who gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Princess Leia in the original Star Wars films from 1977 to 1983. In addition to her professional life, she was also known for her straightforward nature.
She openly discussed all of her personal challenges, such as her troubled childhood, failed marriages, and struggles with drug addiction, with honesty in public. She was the daughter of celebrity parents, singer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds, who divorced when she was a child. After Carrie’s sudden death in 2016, Billie Lourd, the only child of Fisher, inherited an estate worth approximately $25 million from her late mother.
Carrie Fisher left valuable assets for her daughter
Carrie Fisher passed away in December 2016 while she was traveling on a flight from London to Los Angeles. Her fellow passengers noticed that she was not breathing, and she was declared dead after spending four days in the ICU. Unfortunately, the following day, Carrie Fisher’s mother also passed away due to a stroke.
Due to her prosperous career, Fisher amassed a sizeable fortune, which was passed on to her daughter, Billie Lourd. The late actress’ final assets, estimated at $25 million, include luxury vehicles, personal items, and bank accounts.
Here is a full list of items that Carrie Fisher left for Billie Lourd:
- A 2016 Tesla S (that is currently priced at approximately $100,000)
- Several bank accounts
- Full ownership of several (limited liability companies) LLCs
- A life insurance policy with Transamerica Occidental
- Star Wars actresses’ jewelry
- Her collectibles
- Rights to her mother’s public image
- Her intellectual property rights
- Ongoing earnings from Fisher’s books, specials, trademarks, and copyrights
- Money from the sale of Fisher and Reynolds’ Beverly Hills mansion (estimated value is approximately $18 million)
In addition to these, the proceeds from Fisher and Reynold’s Star Wars memorabilia were donated to Debbie Reynolds’ pet charities: The Jed Foundation and The Thalians. Both organizations are dedicated to addressing mental illness and providing support for those affected by it.
Billie Lourd honors her mother at Walk Of Fame ceremony
Carrie Fisher was honored by her daughter, Billie, and fans, when she was awarded a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in May 2023.
Lourd accepted the star on behalf of her mother and said,
“My mom isn’t just Princess Leia. She is Carrie Fisher. She was an incredible actress who infused her wit and strength into every character she played from her first role at only 16 years old in Shampoo to her last role in Catastrophe.”
Moreover, Carrie Fisher’s siblings expressed their objection when they were left out of Fisher’s Walk Of Fame ceremony. Lourd explained her decision not to invite them in a statement. She said that her mother’s siblings made the decision to publicly express their grief and take advantage of her mother’s death.
