Before Allegedly Turning Down Fantastic Four, Adam Driver Almost Played Major DC Character In Zack Snyder's $873M Movie That Might Have Fared Better With Critics

Within little time following the inception of his career in the entertainment industry, Adam Driver has managed to rise to a prominent position in Hollywood with his remarkable works. Who began as a mere supporting actor now plays a major role, that too of an intimidating villain, in one of the biggest multi-billionaire franchises of all time: the Star Wars universe.

Not only this, Driver has also recently been in talks of joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well. However, way before the news about his rejection to star in MCU’s Fantastic Four surfaced, he was also rumored to play one major formidable character in Zack Snyder’s $873 million DC movie which might have fared better among the critics.

Considering how big his name has become following his starring in the Star Wars saga, this news about Adam Driver almost playing one of the major and most formidable DC characters of all time might not come as a surprise to most fans. But what’s actually stunning is the role he might have played: that of Lex Luthor.

Although never confirmed, considering how he was the perfect age to play him, the Marriage Story star was in talks of playing the intimidating character in Zack Snyder‘s $873 million DC movie, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). However, due to scheduling conflicts with his Star Wars projects, he had to turn down the role.

Instead, it ended up going to Jesse Eisenberg, whose portrayal of this villain didn’t sit all too well with critics. One reason behind this is that Luthor is described in the comics as a cool and collected businessman who hardly loses his temper, but Eisenberg was seen introducing an eccentric and burlesque character into the DCEU instead.

That being said, Driver’s take and portrayal of the bald baddie instead might have fared better with critics and saved the character in the $873 million movie from getting stamped upon.

As it turns out, the role of Lex Luthor in the DC universe wasn’t the only major role that Adam Driver ended up turning down. Recently, The Last Duel star was once again in talks of joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe to play the character of Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic in the upcoming Fantastic Four.

However, the 39-year-old wasn’t all too keen on the script of the film. Sharing insider information from Marvel on an episode of The Hot Mic podcast about how Driver couldn’t connect with the character, critic Jeff Sneider said,

“They did send the script to Adam Driver some time ago, but he couldn’t connect with the character. The script did not speak to him. So this idea [of him being cast] died very quickly.”

Nonetheless, it seems that fans won’t be seeing him in either the MCU or the DCEU anytime soon, and can only hope for his return in the Star Wars saga.
