In a 2016 episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” host Stephen Colbert demonstrated his evolving comedic style by engaging A-list guests Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling in off-kilter segments that delighted viewers. As Crowe and Gosling joined Colbert on stage to discuss their upcoming comedy film, The Nice Guys, it became evident that something playful was afoot.
Colbert playfully challenged the notion that the two actors were primarily associated with drama, prompting them to prove him wrong. However, the ensuing conversation was filled with intentionally awkward moments, with Crowe delivering deadpan one-liners and Gosling surprising Colbert with a question about The Lord of the Rings series.
When Russell Crowe publically hurt Ryan Gosling’s feelings
The highlight of the episode occurred when Ryan Gosling jokingly expressed shock at the news that Russell Crowe would not have done The Nice Guys without him. He said, “Russell would not do the film without me. Honestly, Let’s call a spade a spade.”
However, Crowe, in turn, started to look increasingly awkward until he admitted: “That was more of a general thing about people called Ryan.” Moreover, Crowe tried to pacify a clearly hurt Gosling and concluded his explanation with, “Mate, it wouldn’t have been the same experience, no, you are right. It wouldn’t.”
But as Gosling realized his co-star never needed him at all, it led to a mock confrontation, with Gosling dramatically storming off the set while repeatedly saying “Bye! Bye! Bye!” Colbert and Crowe continued their interview while Gosling intermittently interrupted, seeking their attention. Eventually, Crowe attempted to win back his co-star’s favor by firing a T-shirt cannon, resulting in Gosling’s return to the stage
When Ryan Gosling responded to claims stating he is too old to play Ken in Barbie
In one of his interviews with GQ, Ryan Gosling responded to criticism that he is too old to play Ken in the upcoming Barbie film. The actor, who is 41 years old, said that he is “representing” the doll as he promotes the film and that he cares “about this dude now.”
Gosling’s comments come after some fans expressed their disapproval of his casting, saying that he is too old to play the character. However, Gosling argued that no one cared about Ken before the trailer was released and that the criticism is hypocritical.
“If you ever really cared about Ken, you would know that nobody cared about Ken,” Gosling said. “So your hypocrisy is exposed. This is why his story must be told.”
Barbie, which is directed by Greta Gerwig, also stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and features a star-studded cast that includes Simu Liu, John Cena, and Ncuti Gatwa. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 21, 2023.
