Barbie, the 2023 movie that starred Margot Robbie and was directed by Greta Gerwig, became a billion-dollar movie soon after its release. Depicting the story of a world where women (Barbies) rule the world, the movie has a very feministic undertone.
It is because of this undertone that the film was banned in several countries. Due to that, the Margot Robbie starrer was a domestic failure in several countries and the reason is quite harrowing!

Due to several reasons which are quite anti-feministic and anti-LGBTQ+, Greta Gerwig’s 2023 movie was a failure in several countries. Although the movie earned a whopping $1.206 billion at the global box office.
The Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling starrer depicted a unique storyline where women were in charge of the whole world and even joked about patriarchy. There are several extreme cases where Barbie was banned in Algeria, Kuwait, and Lebanon. South Korea, being a popular hub for modern marvels of the world, also decided to use the anti-feministic tradition and the movie bombed quite fabulously as it received very less earnings at the theaters.
As per the reports, the Greta Gerwig-directed movie bombed at the box office in South Korea. The movie only managed to secure only $4 million. The reason was cited as the movie being too feministic and feminism is considered a form of rebellion in South Korea.
Barbie Dethrones The Dark Knight To Become WB’s Top Earner
Ever since 2008, the Christian Bale and Heath Ledger starrer The Dark Knight was the top earner for Warner Bros. Discovery. Earning a whopping $1.006 billion at the global box office, the Christopher Nolan-directed movie went on to earn 2 Oscars.
In recent news, Barbie recently broke the record for Warner Bros. Discovery. Earning a whopping $1.206 billion at the global box office, the Greta Gerwig-directed movie dethroned the Christopher Nolan magnum opus. The movie also broke another record by earning $26.1 million domestically on its opening day. This record was also previously held by The Dark Knight which earned $24.5 million at the domestic box office.
Barbie is currently screening in theaters around the world for people to see.
