Folks hoping that Baldur’s Gate 3 crossplay could become a reality have cause for celebration now, as it has been confirmed that the feature is being planned for the game, allowing users to play the extremely popular new RPG with any friend they choose. Michael Douse, director of publishing at developer Larian confirmed as much in an interview with Eurogamer.
“It was always in the planning, but we knew it wouldn’t be for launch. It’s in the roadmap, and though we have an idea of when we’d like to get it ready for, we don’t want to put a date on it until we’re sure.”

While it may be exciting to some fans that it is confirmed Baldur’s Gate 3 crossplay is in the works, some may be a bit sad that the exact timing of the release will remain a complete unknown for some time yet. However, just the fact that it is indeed coming should be of some solace to excited players everywhere.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Crossplay Will Expand Multiplayer Even Further
Baldur’s Gate 3 crossplay will be an exciting addition whenever it does finally make its way into the game. At the moment, cross-save support is already in place, allowing users to flop back and forth between PS5 and PC at their leisure and not worry about startiing the game over. The game also supports online multiplayer and even splitscreen, a beloved feature which is sadly all too uncommon these days.
While Baldur’s Gate 3 crossplay will help to connect players on all platforms, it has not yet released on said platforms. It only just launched on PlayStation 5 after releasing on PC last month, and its Xbox Series X/S release is nebulously set for release sometime this year. Larian managed to convince Microsoft to make an exception to the parity rule for Series X and S so the studio could cut splitscreen from Series S and leave it on Series X.
Until Baldur’s Gate 3 crossplay arrives, players will have to schedule good ol’ fashioned splitscreen sessions or play on the same platform through online play, though given the game’s massive populairty lately, that is probably not too tall of an order at this point.
