With the beginning of Phase 5, the preparations for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty have truly begun. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ended with a direct setup for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty as we got a glimpse of The Council of Kangs. But who will be the Avengers that take them on?
Disney CEO Bob Iger recently spoke about Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and confirmed that the film will pack “a lot of newness.” He went on to say that “a whole new set of Avengers” will be in play when it comes to Avengers 5.
As of now, Marvel has a ton of pre-existing and newly introduced heroes. But they’d have to choose out of the big bunch and divide those heroes between Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. Not everyone can appear in both these Avengers movies. But we might have an idea of the new squad that will appear in The Kang Dynasty.
Based on the multiple interviews of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty writer Jeff Loveness, and the scoop of industry insider Grace Randolph stating director Destin Daniel Cretton’s demands for the film, the following heroes are reportedly said to assemble as the New Avengers:
Seemingly Confirmed Avengers: The Kang Dynasty Heroes
Spider-Man
Given that Tom Holland recently signed a new MCU contract with a much bigger paycheck, Spider-Man is set to play a crucial role in the story. Many scoopers including Randolph confirmed that he’d be the lead in the film.
The world may not remember Peter Parker yet, but they do remember Spider-Man who needs to redeem himself. Wearing his new classic suit, we’d surely get to see him take on Kang.
Shang-Chi
Since the Shang-Chi director is helming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, it’s a no-brainer that the Asian hero will show up in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Being the best martial artist in the world, his team-up with Spider-Man will prove to be really intriguing.
And it’s also likely that the Legend of his 10 rings will also continue in the film as they could somehow be related to Kang.
Captain America
Sam Wilson recently accepted the mantle of Captain America and will now be involved in a conflict against the Hulk villain, Samuel Sterns. He’d lead a new team that includes Joaquin Torres as the new Falcon, and fight against the temptations of the Super Soldier serum.
But by leading his new and temporary team, he’d get the experience to become the leader of the New Avengers squad. However, he might be a joint leader on that squad because of the involvement of…
Captain Marvel
Carol Danvers may or may not be a full-time member of the next Avengers squad, but she is certainly rated very highly as a character. Once she joins the fight after traveling to Earth, she could become the co-leader alongside Sam Wilson.
Also, Grace Randolph mentioned the fact that director Cretton, who has worked with Brie Larson on movies like Short Term 12 and Just Mercy demanded Captain Marvel to be in the film after adding her in Shang-Chi’s mid-credits scene as well.
However, it’ll be interesting to see where Monica and Kamala are left towards the end of The Marvels. They’ve got great potential to be in the New Avengers squad, but there may not be any space for them.
Moon Knight
Another character that Cretton specifically asked for according to Randolph, was Moon Knight. He is one of the most exciting prospects the MCU added in Phase 4, and he has a great history with Kang in the comics.
Plus, he could offer some crazy battle sequences being a great hand-to-hand combatant like Spider-Man and Shang-Chi. And it will be interesting to see how the other Avengers react to his multiple personalities.
Daredevil
Matt Murdock is set to play a huge role in Echo, Daredevil: Born Again, and maybe even Spider-Man 4. But Randolph stated in her video that Kevin Feige himself is excited to see him in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. So, his team-up with Spider-Man might continue against Kang as well.
Another hint for his involvement comes from writer Jeff Loveness himself, which is mentioned in a point below.
Shuri and Yelena Belova
One may have thought that Florence Pugh has become a permanent member of the Thunderbolts, and she might not show up in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. But while speaking on the Phase Zero podcast, Loveness name-dropped both Florence Pugh and Letitia Wright along with Jonathan Majors.
So, it is more or less confirmed that Yelena will return in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and Shuri being the new Black Panther should play a big role in providing the resources that the New Avengers need.
Namor
Namor recently made his MCU debut and befriended Shuri. So, he might follow Shuri in teaming up with the Avengers, especially because Loveness told Comicbook.com that he is really “excited to write Namor.”
She-Hulk and the Hulk
Grace Randolph also mentioned that director Cretton asked Feige to include both She-Hulk and Smart Hulk in the team. So, these two powerhouses would really make the team much stronger!
Ant-Man and the Wasp
Since Loveness recently made these characters defeat Kang in Quantumania, their involvement in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty becomes crucial. Considering that Scott Lang has a good friendship with Sam Wilson, at least Ant-Man is likely to be added to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, if not the Wasp as well.
The Maybes
Hawkeye
In his interview with Polygon, Loveness mentioned that Clint Barton could actually die in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. He said:
“I wish Hawkeye a lot of luck [against the Kangs]. I’m sure Daredevil and Moon Knight are gonna be great against those guys.”
But Hawkeye is in the “maybe section” because Jeremy Renner is currently in recovery, which is said to last for a long period of time. So he’d have to be written out of the film anyway. However, Loveness’ statement did give us reassurance that Daredevil and Moon Knight will be there.
Wong
Wong is linked with Shang-Chi and She-Hulk. Since he is the Sorcerer Supreme, he is expected to at least have a cameo in the movie (especially with Doctor Strange being absent).
Conclusion
So, this could be the first squad of the New Avengers. It already has two Captains. Then, Hulk, She-Hulk, Shang-Chi, Moon Knight, Namor, and Captain Marvel act as huge powerhouses. In fact, Shang-Chi and Moon Knight will also prove to be great with close-range combat, joining the likes of Black Panther, Spider-Man, and Daredevil in the same category.
But it is hard to believe that an Avengers movie will not have Thor and Doctor Strange in it. They are currently off-world busy fulfilling other duties. And since so many Avengers are already confirmed for the lineup of Avengers 5, both Thor and Doctor Strange might straightaway show up in Secret Wars. But we could also be wrong to presume that.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty arrives on May 2, 2025.
